Europe risks facing mass protests against robots within the next 10 years.
In the next 10 years, Europe could face unrest by the unemployed against robots and terrorist attacks carried out by drones.
This is stated in a Europol report, The Telegraph reports.
“Angry crowds of unemployed citizens are rioting in the streets, protesting against hordes of service robots that have taken their jobs. Police officers armed with “robot freeze guns” and “nano-net grenades” are shooting down swarms of drones launched by terrorists to attack electricity and water supplies. This isn't the plot of a new sci-fi film, 'RoboCop,' but what Europe could face in the next 10 years, according to a report from the EU police agency,” the article states.
EU researchers predict that robots will quickly become “a permanent part of everyday life across Europe: gliding silently through shopping malls, delivering parcels to fifth floors, and cleaning public transport platforms at night.”
Police will begin working alongside robots, but terrorists will also use them to attack targets. Using technology acquired during the conflict in Ukraine, terrorists could deploy hundreds of “pocket” quadcopters powered by artificial intelligence to attack power and water systems in cities or to free criminals from prison.
“Displaced workers” in poor areas of cities then take to the streets to protest and express their frustration by engaging in “robot smashing,” the publication says.
