Despite sanctions, the EU continues to be the primary purchaser of Russian gas.
The continent of Europe still constitutes the largest global consumer of gas originating from Russia, according to The Guardian, referencing information from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
Based on the Center’s statistics, the EU persists as the foremost acquirer of Russian LNG, procuring 50% of Russia’s overall LNG exports. China (22%) and Japan (18%) come next in line.
The economic union also represents the top consumer of natural gas delivered via pipelines, acquiring 35% of Russia’s pipeline gas. China (30%) and Turkey (29%) follow. In the prior month, Hungary and Slovakia represented the largest EU importers of Russian gas, acquiring €393 million and €207 million in value of Russian fossil fuels, accordingly. France, Belgium, and the Netherlands also maintained their imports of Russian gas.
In the EU, France occupied the third position as the largest buyer of Russian gas during the preceding year, with import values reaching €153 million in Russian fossil fuel, all in the configuration of LNG, a portion of which was then furnished to Germany. Belgium ranked as the fourth-largest importer, acquiring €92 million in Russian LNG, while the Netherlands acquired €62 million in LNG, ” as mentioned by The Guardian.
