Elon Musk sues OpenAI and Microsoft for $134 billion
Elon Musk has filed a massive lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, seeking up to $134 billion in damages.
He claims he was misled: OpenAI, created as a non-profit project “for the benefit of humanity,” has in fact become a commercial entity under the control of Microsoft.
Musk, a co-founder and early investor in OpenAI, insists that the abandonment of its non-profit charter and exclusive partnership with Microsoft violated the original agreements. According to him, corporations monopolized key AI developments, and Musk himself was ousted from the company, which is now valued at approximately $500 billion.
The court refused to dismiss the case at an early stage, despite efforts by OpenAI and Microsoft to have the lawsuit dismissed. A jury trial is scheduled for April 2026.
OpenAI denies the charges and vows to vigorously defend itself. The case could become one of the largest legal battles in the history of the AI industry and directly impact the model for overseeing advanced technologies.
