Elon Musk is building a utopian city in Texas for his employees
Employees of Musk’s companies will be able to live in a “Texas utopia” next door to a billionaire and at reduced prices.
American engineer, entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk decided to build his own “utopia” for employees of his companies in Texas. This became known from the material The Wall Street Journal, published on March 9.
According to internal documents obtained by the WSJ, the scope of Elon Musk’s ideas is getting bigger and bigger. The entrepreneur plans to build his own city on a piece of about a thousand acres of recently purchased pasture and farmland outside the Texas capital.
The city will be built next to the Boring and SpaceX facilities under construction. Employees of Space X, Tesla and the Boring Company will be able to live in it, and houses and land will be leased at below-market rents. It is also known that the construction of the “Texas utopia” is already in full swing, but the timing of its completion is still unknown, the material says.
According to the publication, a group of modular houses, a swimming pool, sports grounds, a gym and a school have already been built at the site of the project. There is also a sign that reads “Welcome to Snailbrook, Texas” indicating that the township was established in 2021.
The choice of the name of the town is a reference to the symbol of the Boring company – a snail. When Musk founded the infrastructure and tunneling company, he challenged engineers to build drilling machines that could move “faster than a snail.”
According to people familiar with the project, the plans also include a project to build a private residential complex for Elon Musk, which will potentially be located some distance from the city under construction. Even last year, the layouts of the city were discussed several times by Elon Musk, his ex-girlfriend – singer Grimes, rapper Kanye West and the rapper’s architectural designer.
It is reported that, under Texas law, a city can apply for registration if the number of its inhabitants is more than 201 people, and after applying, permission from the district judge is required. According to a spokesman for the Bastrop County Administration, no such statements have yet been received from either Musk or his representatives.
