Since the new year, the government of the Saratov region has secretly introduced an anti-fur dress code.
Officials are strongly advised to avoid fur coats and clothing made from expensive natural leather at public events, including meetings with the public, where the media may be present.
Sources in the office of Governor Roman Busargin reported this to the news agency Vzglyad-info.

“The lifestyle of Saratov officials should demonstrate modesty, simplicity, and restraint. The trend is unprepossessing jackets, insulated caps (in the use of this accessory, priority is given to Roman Viktorovich), and knitted hats. Fur can only serve as decor, and not as a dominant element of outerwear. All this will show unity with the people, or at least closeness to them. The dress code was collectively “revealed” during yesterday’s visit to CHPP-2 – the raid participants, including the governor and mayor Lada Mokrousova, dressed so as not to stand out from the crowd. Now Lada Mikhailovna is wearing a fur coat Saratov residents will no longer see photos and videos,” said one of the agency’s interlocutors.
According to sources, in general, officials of the Saratov government reacted to the ban with understanding; slight irritation was caused only by the need for “additional expenses on the purchase of things for the “people’s” special wardrobe.”
RBC news agency, 01/12/2024, “Saratov authorities have denied the ban on fur coats for officials”: Officials of the Saratov region were not prohibited from appearing in fur coats at meetings with residents, the press service of the regional governor Roman Busargin told RBC.
