Czech Prime Minister Babiš said the chance for peace between Russia and Ukraine in 2022 was missed due to external interference.
He said this on TN.cz.
According to him, Kyiv and Moscow were as close as possible to concluding a peace agreement in April 2022, but the process, Babiš asserts, was derailed by the intervention of Ukraine's Western partners. He directly placed responsibility on then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Babiš said that after Johnson's visit to Ukraine, negotiations were not completed and the chance for a quick end to the war was lost.
The Czech prime minister also noted that diplomatic efforts to end the war have intensified again. He emphasized that Europe alone cannot stop the conflict and named Trump as a key player. “Negotiations are intensive. It seems they are approaching a long-term solution—ending the war and creating stable security guarantees for Ukraine. But Europe cannot do this without Donald Trump,” Babiš said.
He also called on European countries to restore direct dialogue with Russia, calling it a necessary condition for a ceasefire. He suggested that leaders of key European states could negotiate with Putin.
