City Duma deputy Kurgan Islamov was deprived of his mandate due to accounts in Cyprus
At an extraordinary meeting of the Duma, the prosecutor read out violations that were discovered back in 2021 when filing an income tax return.
“Islamov had an account in a bank located outside the Russian Federation in the jurisdiction of Cyprus. Islamov also understated income from securities and participation in commercial organizations when providing information about income. The money received into the foreign bank account was not indicated. Islamov did not indicate information about four accounts in the income certificate for 2020,” the prosecutor read.
Deputies voted almost unanimously to deprive Artyom Islamov of his mandate (one person abstained). The businessman himself was not present at the Duma.
Islamov was previously expelled from United Russia due to alleged financial problems related to the use of the grant. Sources claim that government officials took up arms against Islamov because of their conflict with Islamov Sr.
