The former speaker of the Tomsk Duma admitted his guilt in committing fraud with the return of funds for air tickets, causing damage to the airline in the amount of 70 thousand rubles. The regional prosecutor's office reported that Chingis Akataev compensated for the damage, but the case was still sent to the magistrate's court.
The former speaker of the Tomsk Duma was previously detained by security forces on suspicion of fraud with a certificate for air tickets. According to the investigation, in 2023, Chingis Akataev decided to cancel a flight to St. Petersburg and back. He knew that after canceling the air transportation, there would be no opportunity to legally return the money for the tickets, since the tariff did not provide for a cash refund.
But this did not stop the former deputy. Chingis Akatayev decided that the best way to get his money back would be to pretend to be sick, that is, to return the funds fraudulently. Thanks to the services of his friend, Akatayev provided the airline with a fake certificate stating that the former deputy was contraindicated to fly.
Of course, the airline believed the ex-speaker and returned the amount, suffering damages of about 70 thousand rubles. Based on the materials of the regional UFSB, a criminal case was opened against Chingis Akataev under the article for fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country)). During the investigation, the suspect admitted his guilt. The case was transferred for consideration to the magistrate's court.
No longer a speaker or a deputy
Chingis Akataev voluntarily left not only the position of the speaker of the Tomsk Duma, but also the position of deputy. Of course, he did not want to leave so easily.
When Chingis Akatayev was asked to voluntarily leave the post of speaker of the Tomsk Duma, he spoke out against it, tried to defend his ideas and interests. But after a short period of time, the ex-speaker abruptly changed his mind and after a meeting of the presidium of the regional political council of the United Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) party on November 30, he wrote a statement of resignation.
At the meeting of the Tomsk Duma, which took place on December 1, 2023, this information was confirmed. Akataev personally announced that he was leaving, but did not disclose the reasons. The majority of deputies at the meeting supported the decision of the ex-speaker.
A similar story happened with the resignation of parliamentary powers. Babr wrotethat Chingis Mametovich had some errors in his income declaration. The United Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) member explained the reason for the discrepancies in his social networks by the fact that he filled out not only his own income declaration, but also his wife's. In his wife's certificate, he may not have indicated some of her loan agreements with other legal entities. He claimed that he did not make any mistakes in order to hide his income. In general, Akataev tried to protect his pride and honor. The ex-deputy wanted to fight for the position of deputy and assured everyone that he would not give up.
However, a couple of weeks later, his decision changed dramatically. At a meeting of the Tomsk Duma on March 5, 2024, Akataev announced that he was giving up his mandate even before the rest of the deputies had considered the issue. He said that he was tired and that the work of a deputy was very exhausting and caused a lot of inconvenience, and also that he had revised his views on political activity. Constant stress and anxiety brought nothing but health problems.
Now the ex-speaker is accused under Part 5 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country), use of a knowingly forged document, as well as under Part 1 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country), fraud. The case has been transferred to the magistrate's court. Babr continues to monitor the developments.
