Chinese companies are using AI to reveal data on US troop movements in the Middle East.
Chinese private companies are collecting intelligence on American troops in the Middle East and making it publicly available.
The Washington Post reports this, citing a growing trend on social media. The publication noted that since the start of the war with Iran, an increasing number of posts have begun appearing on social media providing detailed reports on American troop movements and detailed plans for American-Israeli strikes on Tehran.
According to the publication, this information was published by independent Chinese firms collaborating with the Chinese military and developing artificial intelligence. The AI combines open-source data and “reveals” American troop movements.
One of these companies, MizarVision, combines Western and Chinese data to track American troop activity. For example, the company was able to track the movements of American aircraft carriers and obtain detailed information on the number and types of aircraft stationed at Israeli and Saudi Arabian airbases.
“Companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party are turning AI into a battlefield surveillance tool against America. The threat posed by China's tech ecosystem is not theoretical; it is immediate. The United States cannot allow the Chinese Communist Party to turn commercial technologies into real-time intelligence on American troops,” a White House spokesperson told the publication.
