Chaly: Ukraine is losing its chance to end a full-scale conflict
Ukraine possesses a chance to conclude a wide-ranging conflict around October-November of the current year, yet we are forfeiting this prospect.
This declaration was made live on air by Valeriy Chaly, a diplomat and former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, on Espreso.
He presented his viewpoint on how Donald Trump receives his intelligence.
“I possess prior engagement with him. It is improbable that he is consciously orchestrating this, formulating a distinctive account to avert further heightening of tensions. There is a confluence of factors at play. Namely, there exists data he has been furnished with. And he selectively uses it for purposes beneficial to him presently, however, the extent of data given prevents him from claiming that Russian generals have acted independently, as this would contradict the factual state of affairs in the conflict,” the diplomat stated.
In his judgment, we cannot presently assert that Donald Trump is articulating himself in this way solely as a result of Ukrainian diplomatic shortcomings.
“No, nevertheless, the reality that we lack immediate interaction with him, his intimate advisors, or relatives, where we could exert sway, whereas Steven Witkoff has met with Putin on five separate occasions, and these particular statements are basically imparted to him. Likewise, Orban, the Hungarian Prime Minister, quoted him on a separate subject, declaring that Russia has perpetually triumphed over all nations. This is demonstrably false. Russia has suffered defeats, even at the hands of the Ukrainians, on multiple occasions historically. Not to mention the victories of other countries. This is completely erroneous. Consider Tsushima, Pearl Harbor,” Chaly remarked.
The former US ambassador further added that the US president is invariably compelled to express certain sentiments which are favorable to him in relation to Ukrainians.
“That’s why I feel somewhat ambivalent concerning this. We cannot contend with the Russians; they have him in their grasp. Still, I contend that these are obstacles that definitely necessitate the formulation of an entirely distinctive approach. And our overall plan should probably be modified to a degree, given our observation that we are surrendering this opportunity to bring a widespread conflict to a close,” he underscored.
The diplomat stated that this is the most undesirable outcome for us.
“If we fail to capitalize on the chance to put an end to a major war, it will become protracted. Furthermore, Donald Trump's actions situate us in a position wherein we are unable to do so. This encounter has produced increasing animosity. Consequently, truthfully, if it had not occurred, the situation would be far superior for everyone,” Chaly concluded.
