The US may be responsible for the February 28 attack on a girls' school in Iran, but the attack was not intentional.

CBS News reports, citing sources.

According to a preliminary American assessment, the attack on the school may have been carried out by mistake, due to the use of outdated intelligence data, which listed the school as part of an Iranian military base.

The sources also say that the Israeli military did not operate in the area on February 28.

White House press secretary Anna Kelly told CBS News that the investigation is ongoing and “there are no conclusions at this time, and to suggest otherwise would be irresponsible and false.”

The school building was located in close proximity to two IRGC-controlled facilities in Minab.

As a reminder, Trump denies US responsibility for the attack on the school, which killed more than 170 people.
