Britain launches investigation into Peter Mandelson over Epstein links
In Britain, police have launched a criminal investigation into influential Labour MP Peter Mandelson over his friendship with Epstein, and Prime Minister Starmer has called on him to resign.
Starmer also addressed the victims of the paedophile and apologised for his collaboration with Mandelson.
“I apologise for what was done to you. For letting so many people in power down. For believing Mandelson's lies and appointing him,” Starmer said.
One of the photographs from Epstein's archive shows Mandelson in his underwear standing next to an unidentified woman, the BBC reports.
In the correspondence, Mandelson called Epstein his “best friend” and lobbied for his early release.
At Epstein's request, he tried to influence government policy regarding the planned tax on bankers' bonuses. “I'm trying hard to get changes made. The Treasury is resisting, but I'm working on it,” Mandelson wrote to Epstein in December 2009.
The documents show that Epstein transferred around $75,000 to Mandelson and another £10,000 to his partner (now husband) Reinaldo da Silva in 2009.
Mandelson acknowledged communicating with Epstein after his conviction, calling it a mistake.
He has already left the Labour Party, saying he does not want to create any more problems for it.
