Bloomberg: Macron will not participate in Trump's “Peace Council”
French President Emmanuel Macron intends to reject Donald Trump's invitation to join the so-called “Peace Council,” which the former US president is promoting as a new international forum for resolving global conflicts.
Bloomberg reports this, citing sources familiar with the position of the Elysee Palace.
According to the agency, France is skeptical of both the initiative's format and its political underpinnings. Paris believes that such structures should not duplicate existing international mechanisms, including the UN and formats in which France plays an active role. Furthermore, French diplomats fear that Trump could use the “Peace Council” as a tool for personal political influence, given his foreign policy statements and election campaign activities.
