Before the full-scale war, the pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life faction was the second largest in parliament – 43 deputies. Last year, the party’s activities in Ukraine were prohibitedsome MPs were stripped of their mandates and were suspected of treason.
However, the majority of members of the former OPZZh faction still continue to sit in parliament and have even created new parliamentary groups, although they try not to be particularly active in public.Word and deed» studied how the fate of the Opposition Platform – For Life developed after February 24.
Of the 43 MPs from the now banned Opposition Platform faction, most retained their mandates. More details on the fate of the MPs are in the infographic.
The activities of the Opposition Platform – For Life were terminated by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on March 19, 2022. But the members of its faction who remained in Ukraine found a new “haven” in the Rada a month later.
At the end of April, the parliamentary group “Platform for Life and Peace” was created, headed by Yuriy Boyko. Today, the group’s members from among former OPZZh members are: Vitaly Bort, Anatoly Burmich, Sergey Dunayev, Yuriy Zavgorodniy, Yuliy Ioffe, Vladimir Kaltsev, Alexander Kachny, Alexander Koltunovich, Sergey Larin, Sergey Levochkin, Mikhail Makarenko, Grigory Mamka, Suto Mamoyan, Vasily Nimchenko, Yuriy Pavlenko, Mikhail Papiyev, Alexander Ponomarev, Alexander Puzanov, Mikhail Skorik, Grigory Surkis, Nestor Shufrich and Viktor Cherny.
Of the listed MPs, only Ponomarev has been charged with treason; the court recently arrested him for two months without the right to post bail. He is the only member of the former OPZZh faction in pretrial detention.
Some of the former members of the Opposition Platform joined another new parliamentary group, Renewal of Ukraine (it also includes former members of Servant of the People and Trust): Valeriy Gnatenko, Igor Kisilev, Dmitry Isayenko, Oleksandr Lukashev, Volodymyr Moroz, Natalia Prykhodko, Antonina Slavitskaya, Vadym Stolar. Only Fedir Khristenko remained non-factional.
Igor Abramovich, Yulia Levochkina, Tatyana Plachkova, and Yuri Solod resigned their parliamentary mandates early. Law enforcement agencies have not yet shown any interest in them.
It is known that Solod and his wife Natalia Korolevska are in the UAE. Incidentally, Korolevska was declared suspected of false declaration: she did not indicate property in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) and land in the Kyiv region worth more than 4 million hryvnia.
Taras Kozak, Renat Kuzmin, Vadim Rabinovich and Viktor Medvedchuk are abroad, deprived of Ukrainian citizenship and parliamentary mandates and suspected of treason.
Of all the members of the OPZZh faction, it was Medvedchuk who “lived away” the most. Even before the full-scale Russian invasion, he was informed of suspicion of treason and plundering national resources; in 2021, he was placed under house arrest.
On February 27 last year, it became known that Medvedchuk had escaped from custody. He was detained on April 12, and in September, the former MP was exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war. He now apparently lives in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism).
Also in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) now is Oleg Voloshin, who was stripped of his mandate and is suspected of treason.
Ilya Kiva was one of the first to be stripped of his mandate. He fled Ukraine before the start of a full-scale war, first to Spain, then to Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism). Kiva was charged with a number of articles of the Criminal Code: high treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, actions aimed at overthrowing the constitutional order, propaganda of war, and false declarations.
Let us recall that during the full-scale war, according to the calculations of Slovo i Delo, suspicions More than 40 people’s deputies of different convocations were convicted of various crimes.
