Artur Sharetdinov, the former deputy head of the Department for Supervision of Criminal Procedural and Investigative Activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic, received eight and a half years in prison and was fined 20 million rubles. He is banned from holding positions in government and law enforcement agencies for five years. The ex-supervisor is deprived of the rank of “Senior Counselor of Justice.”

Corruption schemes in the Bashkir prosecutor’s office were revealed after UFSB officers detained Ramil Garifullin and then Feim Mukhitov in early autumn 2017.

Oleg Gorbunov was detained in October 2018 at Sheremetyevo Airport.

The criminal case was supposed to be considered by the Kirovsky District Court of Ufa, but after the approval of the indictment, Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Grin applied to the Supreme Court of Russia with a request to transfer the case to the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow, since the decisions of the Bashkir court could be further called into question “from the point of view of the criterion of impartiality” and “as not meeting the principle of fairness”.

Lawyer Oleg Bessonov, representing the interests of Oleg Gorbunov in court, told Kommersant-Ufa that he considers his client’s sentence unreasonable and intends to appeal against it. It was not possible to get comments from the defenders of the other defendants.
