The leadership of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka) is conducting an internal investigation into the situation with the detention of a student in the university building with the help of a teacher.
About it informs Student Council of Shaninka with reference to the official statement of the School.
“On February 4, in Shaninka, police officers detained a student of the Faculty of Law, Maria Tillert. Unfortunately, a university employee was involved in the police actions. At the request of a police officer, without informing any of the management or colleagues, an employee of the dean’s office asked Maria to come to Shaninka under a far-fetched pretext, where she was detained by the police. When an employee misled a student, he violated the basic principles of our school. We consider such actions of any university employee categorically unacceptable. After what happened in Shaninka, an urgent meeting of staff, administration and deans of the faculties was held. All the deans of the faculties present unanimously expressed their indignation at what had happened. We consider it unacceptable to involve university staff in operational-search activities related to students. Currently, an internal investigation is underway against the dean’s office employee, as a result of which a disciplinary commission will be assembled, ”the university said in a statement.
The report also notes that for all employees of Shaninka, an instruction is being drawn up on how to “react legally competently and confidently to the appeals of law enforcement agencies, observing the legitimate interests of students and teachers.”
The university management also apologized to Maria for the unacceptable actions of the employee.
“We hope that the university will continue to be a space for free discussion, where the personal views, political positions and beliefs of staff, students and faculty are respected and accepted. This is how Teodor Shanin conceived it. This is how our rector Sergei Zuev wants to see him. We will do everything in our power to make both students and staff feel safe,” the School said in a statement.
A student of Shaninka and an activist of the party “Another Russia named after Eduard Limonov” Maria Tillert was detained on February 4 right in the university building.
According to the girl, the day before the arrest, an employee of the dean’s office called her and asked her to come to the university to sign documents. In Shaninka, Tillert was already waiting for the criminal investigation officers. The police told Maria that they had agreed with the administration of the university and notified everyone about the operational-search activities.
The activist was charged with article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (disobedience to the lawful order of a police officer).
