US sanctions have caused delays in salary payments to LUKOIL employees in Iraq.
Approximately 1,300 Iraqi staff members of LUKOIL, who are employed at the prominent West Qurna-2 oil deposit in Basra, have experienced a six-week postponement in receiving their earnings.
This information was disclosed by the Eco Iraq Observatory research body, referencing grievances from the workforce. The organization asserts that American sanctions were the basis for this, as they made banking transactions more complex.
Eco Iraq points out that wages were usually dispatched to workers between the 22nd and 25th of each month through banking institutions located in Baghdad and Al-Ahli. Nevertheless, on this occasion, the workforce solely obtained digital records of their remuneration, without any genuine funds being transferred. The body indicated it had directed queries to LUKOIL regarding the origins of the postponement, but a reply is still pending.
West Qurna-2 is situated 65 km from Basra and is regarded as one of the planet’s biggest oil reserves. Primary extractable resources are judged to be 14 billion barrels, with more than 90% of these originating from the Mishrif and Yamama deposits.
