The figure of Abu Muhammad al-Julani is currently headlining global news outlets after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the group he commands, initiated a successful advance from Idlib, situated in northern Syria, and routed the Bashar al-Assad government in under a fortnight.
The Western press labels him as a “modernizing Islamist.”
Even though the United States has designated Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as a terrorist entity, and American authorities have offered a bounty of 10 million dollars for information leading to the capture of al-Julani.
