The Second Western District Military Court in Moscow sentenced a native of Chechnya Zelimkhan Mazaev for “inducing, recruiting or involving a person into committing crimes of a terrorist nature” (part 1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code) to eight years in prison, Kommersant writes, citing sources.
According to the verdict, Mazaev paid for the militant’s trip to Syria in April 2014, and in January 2015 attacked private collectorsto take their bags. The latter contained only documents. Mazaev was sentenced under Art. 162 and 161 of the Criminal Code (robbery and robbery) to three years and nine months in prison. At that time, it was not known about his complicity in terrorism, so the military court combined the three crimes and sentenced all episodes at once, the newspaper writes.
From eight years, by a court decision, the term served by Mazaev in a colony and another year for the time spent in a pre-trial detention center in a terrorist case will be deducted. Thus, he received less than four years in prison and may soon apply to the court for a request for parole.
Dubai Public Prosecutor’s Office announced Mazaev on the international wanted list among seven Russians in the case of the murder of the ex-commander of the battalion of the GRU “Vostok” Hero of Russia Sulima YamadayevaHowever, he managed to leave the country. Prosecutors and subsequently court in the UAE came to the conclusionthat it was Mazaev who shot Yamadayev in the parking lot of the residential complex on March 28, 2009. Investigators managed to detain the killer’s accomplices Maksujon Ismatov and Mahdi Lorniyawho looked after the racehorses of the head of Chechnya in the emirate Ramzan Kadyrov. They received life sentences. Kadyrov declared about the availability of an alibi from his groom.
Mazaev in 2011 forgot “Stechkin’s golden pistol” in one of the capital’s restaurants. The weapon was handed over to the police, and Mazaev claimed that he legally owns it. He promised to bring supporting documents to the police department, but never arrived. Three months later, Mazaev hurt himself from a traumatic pistol when he got up from the table in one of the restaurants of the European shopping center, and was taken to the hospital.
Mazaev’s lawyer spoke about his intention to appeal the verdict. The defense will seek the full acquittal of the convict, since the prosecution was based on the testimony of a witness with drug addiction, lawyer Anton Kolosov noted.
“Kommersant”, 08/04/2023, “He who shot Sulim Yamadayev will serve time for terrorism”: The defender of the convict, Anton Kolosov, told Kommersant that this term would also be appealed. As the lawyer explained, they will seek the full acquittal of the client, since the charge was based on the testimony of a witness suffering from drug addiction.
According to the verdict, in April 2014 this young man transferred 28 thousand rubles. to the bank card of his friend Adam Sugaipov, and in the summer of 2017 the recipient of the money was detained by FSB officers at the Krasnodar airport while trying to fly to Turkey. The detainee said that he made his way to Syria to fight on the side of the IS terrorist organization (banned in the Russian Federation). As part of a pre-trial cooperation agreement concluded with the prosecutor’s office, he spoke about a drug addict who gave money for the trip.
The failed militant went to the colony, and his likely accomplice, according to Kolosov’s lawyer, escaped responsibility for financing the trip. “Our witness himself told the investigation that he is a drug addict and since 2014 he has been using heroin regularly, every other day,” the lawyer explained. “Even during interrogation, he honestly admitted that he had taken the last dose on the eve of the investigative action.” Nevertheless, the person involved stated that his bank card was used as a transit card, but in fact Zelimkhan Mazaev paid for the militant’s trip to Syria. Adam Sugaipov himself disappeared after his release. — Inset K.ru
