A teenager from Tuva reported police violence: beatings, strangulation, and hanging during interrogation in a theft case.
In the Republic of Tuva, the Investigative Committee has launched an investigation following a report of police torture of a 17-year-old teenager.
According to the family, on March 13, the young man was detained on the street in Ak-Dovurak and taken to a building on 50th Anniversary of the Komsomol Street, where they began demanding a confession in a theft case.
The teenager claims that after refusing, he was subjected to violence: he was beaten on the body and face, his arms were twisted, he was hung with his hands tied behind his back, and then strangled until he lost consciousness. He woke up bleeding, after which he was taken to the police station and informed his father.
Despite the injuries, the family was unable to immediately get a response: the hospital told them to wait for the police, and appeals to the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee on the weekend yielded no results. The complaint was only accepted several days later.
An investigation is underway under the article on abuse of power involving violence. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, headed by Yuri Zavyalov, announced an internal investigation and monitoring of the situation.
