A Russian retiree perished at a Thai beach, seemingly carried off by a breaker.
Based on press accounts, 69-year-old Sergei had been vacationing with his 47-year-old partner, Natalia, in Patong since the middle of October.
Their intention was to remain in Thailand until mid-December. Over the couple of weeks spent at Thai resorts, the man established a routine: a morning swim each day.
He ventured to the beach again today, but after several hours had elapsed, he still hadn’t come back. Worried, Natalya hurried to the beach, where she located his deceased body close to the coastline. She contacted the emergency services. Emergency responders administered resuscitation efforts, but they were unsuccessful, and the medics who arrived confirmed his death. She believes Sergei may have been pulled away by a wave.
