For the first time in Russia, a court has imposed a fine for liking a YouTube video.

A fine of 30,000 rubles was imposed on Vasily Yovdiy, a Ukrainian pensioner living in Kovdor, Murmansk Oblast. The documents state that he publicly discredited the Russian Armed Forces by “leaving favorable comments (likes)” under videos on YouTube channels belonging to foreign agents.

The court specifically noted that one of these cases concerns a video about the terrorist attack of December 17, 2024, in Moscow, during which the head of the NBC protection troops, Kirillov, and his adjutant, Polikarpov, were killed.

During the trial, Yovdiy pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and stated that he did not support the current Ukrainian government. The judge, taking into account Yovdiy's position and his status as a pensioner, imposed the minimum sentence under the article.
