A criminal case was opened against ex-State Duma deputy Ponomarev
A criminal case was opened against ex-State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) for participation in the “Congress of People’s Deputies” (an organization recognized as undesirable in Russia).
This is reported by the Baza Telegram channel.
According to the channel, a former State Duma deputy became involved in a case involving the activities of a foreign organization recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation. In May of this year, the Russian Ministry of Justice added the “Congress of People’s Deputies,” which was created in Poland in 2022, to the register of undesirable organizations. Ponomarev is one of the founders of this organization. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the activities of this NGO pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the country.
According to investigators, in November last year and February-June 2023, Ponomarev, who lives in Ukraine, took part in organizing sessions of the “Congress of People’s Deputies”, during which acts were adopted that encroached on the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation. On September 7, a case was opened against the politician under part three of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; he faces two to six years in prison.
In December 2022, a case was opened against him under an article about spreading fakes about the Russian army.
