An emergency occurred with a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. After being struck by an unknown weapon, a massive fire broke out on the ship, and the crew began evacuating.
This was reported by the UK Maritime Trade Office (UKMTO).
According to Reuters, the vessel sent a distress signal and requested urgent assistance. The crew is currently abandoning the burning ship. This is not the first such incident in recent hours. The UKMTO clarified that another civilian vessel was also hit by an attack earlier on Wednesday and sustained serious damage.
Earlier, the Iranian military announced it was blocking the strait to vessels linked to the United States and Israel. Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, confirmed this information.
