
A bill has been submitted to the State Duma to expel adult children of migrants without a work permit.
A bill has been introduced in the State Duma that would tighten the rules governing the stay of migrant workers in Russia. Specifically, it proposes deporting children of foreigners who have reached the age of 18 if they have not obtained their own work permit.
The document, which appeared in the State Duma database on February 21, amends the law “On the legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation.”
Foreigners working in Russia must obtain a work permit to legally reside in the country. This permit is required for citizens of countries with which Russia has a visa-free regime—with the exception of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
A bill submitted to the State Duma expands the grounds for revoking a work permit. Specifically, it can be revoked if the income of a foreigner working in Russia is below Furthermore, the bill proposes restricting the stay in Russia of foreign children who have reached adulthood. The document states that such children may remain in Russia as long as their parent's work permit is valid, but upon reaching 18, they must leave within 30 days unless they have a legal basis—for example, their own work permit.
