Four officials of the Dnieper City Council are suspected of embezzling more than 10.5 million hryvnia from purchases for the military. They will appear in court.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the Bureau of Economic Security.
As noted in the BEB, detectives sent an indictment against four individuals who held leadership positions in the Dnieper City Council.
Law enforcement officers found that the Dnieper City Council allocated funds to ensure the implementation of the program to promote the territorial defense of the city for 2022-2026. The suspects made purchases for the military at increased prices. In particular, we are talking about: night vision goggles, thermal imagers, furniture, generators.
The officials have already been given preventive measures in the form of night house arrest.
“The persons involved in the case face imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities,” the BEB emphasized.
Military procurement scandals
Let us remember that last year a loud scandal broke out around the purchase of food for Ukrainian soldiers at inflated prices. Officials of the Ministry of Defense became suspects.
Against this background, Ukraine decided to change the rules by which food products are purchased for Ukrainian soldiers.
Back in January, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov assured that the department was actively working to expose such schemes. Therefore, there will be new arrests.
