The candidate for mayor of Odessa from the party “Vidrodzhennya” is the well-known Ukrainian “activist” Svitlana Fabrikant, who has long been branded as a “political prostitute” and “fraudster”. Recently, she even stated that she is “ready to become mayor of Odessa and annex the city to Crimea”. It smacks of outright separatism, or banal stupidity. Whether the former ally of Serhiy Tigipko will succeed in becoming mayor of Odessa depends on the decision of Odessans in the upcoming elections, the main thing is that they understand who they are voting for.
Svetlana Fabrikat was born in the glorious city of Odessa in June 1967. According to her official autobiography, she studied at the Faculty of Mathematics at the Odessa Mechnikov State University. During her studies, the future politician was expelled several times for poor academic performance. Svetlana clearly had a sense of humor about her life, since in order to solve her academic issues, she joined the university KVN team “Odessa Gentlemen”, which later became the USSR champion twice. However, even participation in KVN did not help Svetlana Samuilovna graduate from a higher educational institution.
“Star” actress
On the KVN wave, Fabrikant was carried away into cinema, she even starred in several films in episodic roles. One of these roles was the role of a prostitute (a girl of easy virtue) in the film Criminal Talent. As her colleague from the KVN team Oleg Filimonov said, during the filming of the film, a funny incident occurred: Svetlana Fabrikant got into the role so much that some Caucasians mistook her for a prostitute, and they already wanted to “take her off”. It is funny that the politician denies this episode in her life in every possible way, although her last name is in the credits of the film.
After her “star” roles in films, Svetlana got a job as an editor and TV presenter on the Odessa regional television. Apparently, she “earned” a good reputation there, and starting in 1998, she became the editor-in-chief of the television company “RIAK”. She was “kicked out” of this company for fraud.
“TV scammer”
In 2005, while working as the editor-in-chief of RIAK, Svetlana Fabrikant organized an advertising campaign aimed at promoting the infamous credit union “Ukraine” in Odessa. In exchange for widespread support, the organizers of the scam opened several deposit accounts in the name of Svetlana Samuilovna and her relatives.
Credit Union of Ukraine:
Svetlana Fabrikant
Deposit account No. GO-0712064Ч (2006) – total amount 279260 UAH
Samuel Fabricant (father)
Deposit account No. GO-220908Zh (2008) – total amount 53938 UAH
Dmitry Zubov (husband)
Deposit account No. GO-060607B (2007) – total amount 2572672 UAH
Vera Zubova (husband’s relative) No. GO-250108Zh (2008) – total amount 71,559 UAH
Svetlana Samuilovna stated on the screens of the media under her control that the credit union “Ukraine” is a completely honest organization that can really bring money to Ukrainians. As soon as it became known that the union’s depositors would soon not be able to get their deposits, the Fabrikant family and her close associates received such an opportunity (really, why would this be?). It is noteworthy that even after the withdrawal of funds from their accounts, Svetlana Fabrikant continued to agitate depositors into the union, and completely refuted its criticism in several stories. By the way, “RIAK”, which Fabrikant managed, was actively used to launder money earned from fraud with the credit union “Ukraine”. In 2008, depositors of the union fled abroad with the financial assets of depositors, according to official data, the total amount of stolen money was more than 200 million UAH. Svetlana Samuilovna was threatened with a prison term for fraud, which she avoided only with the help of the scandalous head of the Rodina party, Igor Markov, whose assistance made her an ardent oppositionist.
“Political Prostitute”
Fabrikant first entered politics on the lists of the SDPU “Not So!” bloc, which included most of the politicians who lost as a result of the “orange revolution”. On the lists of this party, Svetlana Samuilovna entered the Odessa City Council, where she worked on the housing and utilities commission. True, “worked” is a strong word, because in four years of being a deputy, she did absolutely nothing to reform the housing and utilities sector in Odessa. Instead, she began a battle for the Russian language, which no one even thought of infringing, and also began to shield “unwanted” deputies.
After the completion of the machinations with the credit union “Ukraine”, Svetlana Samuilovna was forced to join the opposition, or more precisely to the “Rodina” party of Igor Markov. In this party, in addition to its leader, the main “undesirable” individuals gathered, who were unlikely to have any chance in the future. Its leader Markov even declared himself repressed for political reasons. It was he who became Svetlana’s patron. In return, she lobbied for his interests, and he protected her from attacks by law enforcement agencies, who were still hunting her because of the scam with the credit union “Ukraine”.
According to Proudtimes:
After this episode, Svetlana Samuilovna decided not to take risks with “unreliable” political projects anymore and to go into “big politics”. Serhiy Tigipko and his project “Strong Ukraine” volunteered to help her with this.
In 2010, she was elected as a deputy of the Odessa Regional Council. Her career quickly took off, and a year later she became deputy mayor for social policy. Soon, at the suggestion of her patron Serhiy Tigipko, she began working in the Ministry of Social Policy as the head of reform of the social sphere of the patronage service. During the parliamentary elections in 2012, Svitlana Samuilivna was included in the passing list of the “Party of Regions”. After the merger of the “Party of Regions” and “Strong Ukraine”, it was Fabrikant who helped Serhiy Tigipko keep members of his party on the team.
Probably, Fabrikant’s only advantage in Serhiy Tigipko’s team was her ability to speak “on behalf of the party”. Being a part of the “Party of Regions” faction, she never submitted a parliamentary inquiry, did not speak, did not introduce bills, performing purely technical functions – the main “button pusher” of the party.
In Odessa, journalists call Fabrikant “not a very smart woman” who does not understand politics. An example of this is an episode that occurred after she was elected as a city council deputy. In an interview, she said that she would definitely give up her parliamentary immunity. The irony is that city council deputies do not have it, which she obviously did not know. There was also an episode when Svetlana Samuilovna, in her naivety, asked one of the politicians whether the government could dissolve the Verkhovna Rada.
Now Svetlana Fabrikant is running for mayor of Odessa from the “Vidrodzhennya” party, with which Igor Kolomoisky is trying to create a counterweight to the “Opposition Bloc” in the south and east of Ukraine. It is obvious that Igor Valerievich will benefit greatly from having a mayor of Odessa controlled by his authorities, instead of “less compliant” candidates from the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” and the “Opposition Bloc”.
