“You have two sons, are you worried about your family or not?”
Aliya Nazarbayeva – the youngest daughter of the former president Nursultan Nazarbayevas well as the wife of the ex-chairman of the Constitutional Council Valentin Rogov accused of raider takeover of a business. This statement was made at a press conference on February 28 by Kazakh businessman Nurlan Bimurzin, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to the businessman, in 2003, using her influence, the daughter of the first president seized an existing business worth $170 million (according to estimates for that period), consisting of seven oil depots and 96 gas stations.
It all started with the fact that in 2002, financial police officers sealed all cash registers at gas stations, which is why the business of the Bimurzin family was on the verge of closure.
Some time later, one of the co-owners of the business was kidnapped.
In his statement, Bimurzin also mentioned the wife of ex-chairman of the Constitutional Council Igor Rogov, Valentina, who allegedly “patronized” the seizure. Igor Rogov currently holds the post of Chairman of the Presidential Human Rights Commission (at Akorda website there is a mention of this dated August 29, 2023).
The victim wrote a statement to the Prosecutor General’s Office against Aliya Nazarbayeva and Valentina Rogova with a request to initiate a criminal case.
Currently, according to the businessman, this application is with the Committee for the Return of Illegally Acquired Assets. There has been no official comment from the Prosecutor General’s Office on this matter yet. Previously, the youngest daughter of the first president was mentioned more than once in connection with the scandalous case of “ROP Operator,” a private company that collected recycling payments in Kazakhstan, coordinated waste collection, transportation and processing. After Bloody January 2022, the company was nationalized, and criminal cases were opened against its management. They later received various prison sentences. The role of Aliya Nazarbayeva, who was associated by a number of media with the “ROP Operator” (Russian RBC publicationciting sources, called her the first founder), the company’s activities remained unclear.
