Case of “crab king” Oleg Kan brought to court
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia approved the indictment in the criminal case against the Sakhalin fisherman Oleg Kan.
According to investigators, Kan, with the involvement of other accomplices, from 2014 to 2019 carried out smuggling of strategically important resources abroad. When exported, the crab was declared for delivery to foreign companies controlled by Kan and registered in offshore zones at the same price, but in reality it was shipped at a price significantly higher than declared at the customs authorities.
In a criminal case, a lawsuit was filed to recover from the accused in favor of the Russian Federation the criminal proceeds received from smuggling in the amount of 4.2 billion rubles. The property of the head and members of the criminal community, as well as legal entities in the amount of more than 5.3 billion rubles, was also seized.
Caused by the budgetary system of the Russian Federation was reimbursed during the investigation in full in the amount of 5.3 billion rubles. Kan faces 12 to 20 years in prison.
