Tomsk businessman Oleg Kalmaev, chairman of the well-known company Compstar, received 8 years in prison for attempted fraud and commercial bribery. He was detained by law enforcement officers just at the time of the very illegal transaction.
Let’s delve a little into the biography of the “honest businessman”
Oleg Kalmaev is the founder of the Tomsk company, namely Compstar (OGRN 1087017025182). He is 42 years old and his zodiac sign is Taurus. By the way, although the work of a leader is suitable for Taurus, he will always do what his heart desires. The same is true of our prisoner.
Oleg studied at the Novosibirsk Physics and Mathematics School named after M.A. Lavrentiev (SSC NGU), as well as in the Tomsk region at school No. 194 in Seversk. Later he graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic University with a master’s degree, becoming an information systems engineer.
There is no more information about our convict. It is not even known if he has a wife, children, and more.
What is the reason for the arrest?
As the court ruled, in 2020 Oleg Kalmaev tried to commit a money scam during an auction for the supply of electronic equipment for the national Education project. The first time his company was not even going to participate in one of these events, he offered to pay him 500 thousand to a competitor, supposedly to give them a chance to win and not compete with a strong competitor.
The second time, when his company was supposed to really participate, and the amount of the auction was 146 million rubles, he decided to ask for more money, namely three million. Did he ask for too much? Apparently, the victory at the auction itself did not particularly excite him, but hitting the jackpot without any effort is always good. Oleg Kalmaev, most likely, believed that if a competitor was bribed in this way, then everyone would be in an advantageous position. However, it was not there.
About the arrest
Oleg Kalmaev was caught red-handed when he almost received part of the amount from a competitor – 250 thousand rubles. But his plan failed, because those who transferred the money were monitored by the FSB. That’s how he fell into the hands of the guards of the law. They were detained on the spot.
Initially, Oleg Kalmaev was assigned to a pre-trial detention center for a period of two months. Then two charges were brought against him. The first is attempted fraud (Part 3 of Article 30, Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and the second is commercial bribery (Part 8 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Now the court has officially confirmed all the accusations against him and delivered a verdict. Although it has not yet entered into force, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. But that is not all. For all the machinations done, Oleg Kalmaev must pay a fine of 60 million rubles without fail. I wanted to get three million, and now I have to pay a lot more.
What do his “colleagues” say about this situation?
In fact, many with whom he worked or those whom he helped leave only positive feedback about the businessman. For example, the co-chairman of the Party of Growth Elena Ulyanovaeven before Oleg was given eight years in prison, she wrote this:
The rest also believe that Oleg Kalmaev was slandered, or he simply fell under a hot hand. Many say that such “agreements” at this kind of auctions in Tomsk are normal, and Oleg is not the only one who did this.
However, as the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover. Even a well-established businessman in society is capable of clandestine fraud and worse.
After such a high-profile event, every entrepreneur should think about his fifth point and whether it is worth exposing himself and his firms to the danger of ruin. It can be said that this will be a lesson for others.
