“Kommersant”, 09/07/2022, “The formation failed the former owner of the “golden Stechkin””: Zelimkhan Mazaev was arrested by the Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow at the request of the investigative department of the TFR for the Central District of the capital. At the same time, the investigation charged him with committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of illegal armed formations). Four lawyers for an unemployed native of Chechnya appealed against the chosen measure of restraint, calling it unreasonable and illegal, but the Moscow City Court took the side of the court of first instance. And at the end of August, the period of detention of the accused was extended for another two months. After consulting with their employers, representatives of the defense refused to discuss the details of the criminal case with Kommersant. The assassination attempt on Yamadayev was committed in March 2009. He spent more than a year in one of the hospitals in Dubai. In August 2010, the Yamadayev family decided to disconnect the ex-commander of the Vostok battalion from the life support apparatus.
His brother Isa claimed for some time that Yamadayev was alive and in hiding. According to Kommersant, he tried to declare a blood feud against the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov and his cousin, State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov.
After the death of his brother, Isa Yamadayev announced reconciliation with Kadyrov. He repeatedly stated that Yamadayev was involved in assassination attempt on his father Akhmat Kadyrov in 2004.
The Dubai prosecutor’s office in the case of the attempt on Yamadayev put seven Russians on the international wanted list, including Mazaev. A total of nine people were involved in the case. Two of them were in the dock – an Iranian citizen Mahdi Lornia, who worked as a personal groom of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, and a citizen of Tajikistan Mahsujon Ismatov.
They were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Russians managed to return to Russia, they were put on the international wanted list. Later, the brother of the murdered ex-commander agreed to reconciliation with the accused, as provided for by Sharia law, after which the names of Mazaev and six of his alleged accomplices were removed from the Interpol database, and the life sentences to which Ismatov and Lornia were sentenced were softened.
In the fall of 2011, Mazaev forgot Stechkin’s “golden pistol” in one of the capital’s restaurants. The weapon was handed over to the police, and Mazaev claimed that he legally owned it and promised to bring supporting documents to the police department, but never arrived.
Three months later Mazaev wounded himself with a traumatic gunwhen he got up from the table in one of the restaurants of the European shopping center, he was taken to the hospital.
In 2015, he received three years and ten months for an attempted robbery of private collectors. Mazaev served most of his term under investigation.
