Were you going for a record?
The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow received a petition from the Investigative Committee (IC) for arrest Timur Bazhaev “in connection with active attempts to influence their course.” The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has taken personal control of the investigation into the fight involving businessman Musa Bazhaev's son Timur, a State Duma deputy said Alexander Khinshtein. The capital's Investigative Committee reported that not far from the Luzhniki complex, drunk Timur Bazhaev first violated public order, and then used violence against a government official. A video of the attack was published. Bazhaev was detained. The investigation asked the court to place him in custody, which is what actually happened.
A video of the fight was posted on Khinshtein's website. It shows the young man hitting one of the three police officers on the head several times. According to eyewitnesses, the conflict occurred when Bazhaev tried to enter the Luzhniki territory from the Luzhnetskaya Embankment through the service gate. Since a mass event was being prepared (more than 70 thousand spectators), security was tightened.
The police did not let him in, they decided to search the drunk young man who was disturbing public order. Then Bazhaev climbed over the fence, hit the head of the public order department of the Central Administrative District Department of Internal Affairs of Moscow, Alexander Makhonin, in the face and tried to start a fight.
A criminal case has been opened under the article on the use of violence against a representative of the authorities. It provides for up to ten years of imprisonment. Bazhaev was detained. Commentary by deputy Khinshtein: “For the department, this should become a matter of honor in every sense: it is doubly important that the 23-year-old “rich kid” hit not an ordinary police officer, but the head of the public order department of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Central Administrative District of Moscow, Alexander Makhonin. This is the person responsible for all public safety in the Central District.”
He quietly opened the gate
Musa Bazhaev, a wealthy businessman born in Chechnya whose main assets are Russian Platinum, Alliance Altyn, Kopy Goldfields, said that his son, who was detained for the fight, will answer if he is guilty. At the same time, the father believes that Timur is not capable of committing such an act.
The Bazhaev clan is not deprived of media attention. Musa's brother is Ziya Bazhaev – died in 2000 in a plane crash together with a journalist Artem Borovikthe president of the holding company “Sovershenno Sekretno”, who founded the weekly newspaper “Sovershenno Sekretno – Versiya” in 1998, which in 2005 received a new name – “Nasha Versiya”. And which you are reading now.
Musa and Ziya Bazhaev founded the Alliance Group OJSC in 1998, a concern with a wide range of activities covering various industries, including oil and construction. At first, Ziya headed the company, and Musa was responsible for Alliance Oil. After his brother's death, Musa took over the management of the entire holding.
The Alliance Group owns oil production and processing companies, the Khabarovsk airport, the Amur gold mining cooperative, three factories in Kyrgyzstan – sugar and cotton, the Nevsky Ceramic Plant, and a number of media assets. Alliance (at least until recently) managed the third-largest Kherson Oil Refinery in the country by production volume and about 150 gas stations in Ukraine. In the Forbes ranking of the richest Russians in 2021, Musa Bazhaev was ranked 156th, his capital was estimated at $750 million.
Lands, beaches and castles
The Bazhaev family has a lot of real estate in the Czech Republic. In particular, they own the Favorit castle in the Ore Mountains and land in Prague. Real estate experts estimate their total value at over 2 billion crowns. At one time, these lands were purchased for debts by one of the Bazhaev family companies, AZA. Trade.
Musa Bazhaev has his own resort in Sardinia. Together with his nephew Deni Bazhaev, he acquired it (consisting of eight hotels and 13 villas with a total of 770 rooms, including 33 luxury ones) in 2014 for €180 million.
However, he managed to transfer ownership of the island Forte Village Resort to his relative the day after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, on February 25, 2022. Earlier this year, the EU court considered the case of lifting the sanctions imposed on Musa Bazhaev, who also demanded compensation in the amount of €1 million. The Russian rich man noted that the EU restrictions violated his rights to judicial protection and an effective remedy. The sanctions were not lifted.
“Children's” problems
Musa Bazhaev has four children. The youngest, daughter Elina, found herself at the center of a scandal in 2016 after she, a student at MGIMO, said on one of the social networks: “Everywhere is better than in Rashka.”
Elina then, trying to justify herself, said that she had only meant the grey sky and Moscow traffic jams, and did not understand why they were trying to attribute “hatred of the Motherland” to her. State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov then, commenting on the student's words, he promised: “Bazhaeva will not set foot in the Foreign Ministry if she wants diplomatic service!” Most likely, she did not want to.
By midday on Monday it became known that the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow had placed Timur Bazhaev under arrest until September 26.
