The Moscow City Court sentenced the oppositionist Vladimir Kara-Murza. He was convicted in the case of treason and fakes about the army. Life found out that he earned so much that he had enough for a luxurious mansion in the United States.
Vladimir Kara-Murza, Jr., was tried for spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces, leading an undesirable organization, and treason. All three cases were eventually combined into one proceeding, the investigation was conducted by the Investigative Committee of Russia.
By a court decision, Kara-Murza will go to a strict regime colony for 25 years. In addition, the convict will be required to pay a fine of 400,000 rubles, and after his release, he will be subject to a restriction of freedom for another year and a half and a ban on journalism for seven years.
The criminal prosecution of Kara-Murza began in April last year after his speech in the United States on March 15, 2022 before members of the Arizona House of Representatives. The Investigative Committee opened a case under Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces, the exercise by state bodies of their powers). Under this article, he was threatened with up to 15 years in prison.
After the arrest, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested Kara-Murza. During the meeting, the investigator said that the oppositionist could hide from the investigation, as “he is a British citizen and a citizen of Northern Ireland” and has “money in foreign banks.”
In the summer, a second case appeared – under article 284.1 of the Criminal Code (activities of an “undesirable organization”, maximum punishment). It was connected with his work as deputy chairman of Open Russia. According to him, Kara-Murza was threatened with six years.
And finally, in October 2022, he was suspected of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) after three speeches abroad: on October 8, 2021 in Lisbon at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, on October 29 in Oslo at the Helsinki Committee and on March 29, 2022 in Washington at the Helsinki Commission of the US Congress. According to investigators, he received $30,000 for consultations. The maximum penalty in this case is up to 20 years in prison.
The trial of the traitor caused a strong reaction in the West. The trial itself, according to the Moscow City Court, was attended by 40 diplomats from 24 countries: the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, Austria, Canada, Belgium, Romania, the Baltic and Scandinavian states, and even Australia and New Zealand.
Such vivid support for Kara-Murza only confirms suspicions that the oppositionist is an insider for the West.
How Muscovite Kara-Murza became a subject of Great Britain
In Russia, the opposition formally lived modestly. Just a couple of registration addresses in Moscow. One address is on Ovchinnikovskaya embankment, a five-minute walk from the Novokuznetskaya metro station, in the historic Zamoskvorechye district. In one of the “stalinok” on the fourth floor there is a “three-ruble note” of Kara-Murza with an area of almost 70 squares.
And the former journalist lived in his wife’s apartment Evgenia Kulikova. The family could be met in the metropolitan area of Maryino on Lyublinskaya Street, one might say, across the street from the family home of another well-known opposition inmate, Alexei Navalny.
If you look at how and where the Kara-Murza family lived abroad, it becomes obvious that the stake was placed on the United States. The path to the West began with British citizenship. Life found out that the oppositionist has had it since at least 2005. Since that time, Vladimir Kara-Murza has been on the lists of voters for the country’s parliament.
The man was registered in the small town of Woking in the county of Surrey in the southeast of England, 35 kilometers from London. The city is famous for the fact that the famous science fiction writer HG Wells was born here, and his “War of the Worlds” was written here. It is believed that the average level of education of the population of the city is higher than in the whole country. A little over 50 thousand people live here, most of whom work in the capital – it is about 50 minutes by rail.
How Kara-Murza settled in the USA and how much his property costs there
In recent years, the family has been much more common in the United States. Kara-Murza himself is even proud of his connections with the overseas political establishment. In social networks, he often published joint pictures with representatives of the country’s authorities. For example, with the senior US Senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin. Durbin is one of the most liberal members of Congress and arguably the second most powerful member of the Senate Democratic leadership since 2015.
But the oppositionist is talking with a very influential Republican senator Marco Rubio – the author of the bill on the introduction of personal sanctions against the President of Russia. By the way, it was he who, in February 2017, introduced a bill to the US Congress to rename the street in Washington, where the Russian embassy is located, from Wisconsin Avenue to Boris Nemtsov Plaza. And Kara-Murza has dozens of such contacts.
No wonder that the family of the opposition at some point settled in the very center of the American capital, a ten-minute walk from the White House. Here is an apartment of almost 100 square meters, consisting of two bedrooms, a living room and two bathrooms. According to local realtors, the property is great for receiving guests thanks to its open floor plan and huge balcony overlooking the courtyard.
After that, Kara-Murza and his family left the city and for some time settled in a respectable two-story townhouse with an area of 126 square meters with three bedrooms. However, by 2020, the family had already left this living space and significantly improved their living conditions. By the way, in 2023, the real estate left by Kara-Murza has noticeably risen in price and is now valued at almost half a million dollars.
And finally, the family now owns a chic two-story, 400-square-foot home at Surrey House Way, Centreville. It has four bedrooms, two garages, three bathrooms. It is known that the house was purchased in May 2020 for 775 thousand dollars. Now this is worth about one million dollars.
