The RF Investigative Committee unit for the Moscow region is investigating the murder of the deputy chairman of the public organization “Call of the People” Anton Egovtseva. He was stabbed to death by a stalker who was pursuing Egovtsev’s wife. The family claims that they regularly complained to the police, but no one responded.
What is known about the circumstances of the tragedy
The alleged killer of the deputy chairman of the patriotic public organization “Call of the People” Anton Egovtsev turned out to be a motocross instructor from Lobnya near Moscow Dmitry Matveev. According to the SHOT telegram channel, he waylaid a social activist in the entrance with a hammer and a knife on Thursday evening when he was returning from the store.
When Egovtsev went inside, Matveev attacked him and managed to stab him at least seven times. According to Anton’s friends, the social activist played sports and could quickly deal with the offender. However, recently Egovtsev had a cold and was weakened. Nevertheless, during the ensuing scuffle, he managed to resist and even wounded his killer in the forearm.
Egovtsev died of blood loss before the arrival of doctors. He allegedly knocked on his neighbors' door and asked for help, but no one opened the door for him. A criminal case has been initiated and is being handled by the Department of the Investigative Committee for the Moscow Region.
Why was Yegovtsev killed?
According to the SHOT telegram channel, Dmitry Matveev had been stalking Egovtsev for a long time, stalking his wife: “He locked himself in the car and ran his finger across his throat.” He claimed that he had loved Catherine since school, where they studied together. The woman herself doesn’t even remember him.
Friends of the family say that the stalker soon “went off the rails.” For example, he came home to his family with flowers. The Egovtsevs kicked Matveev out, asked to leave them alone, but he returned again, guarding Ekaterina in the car near the entrance.
Why didn't the police help?
In fact, the tragedy could have been avoided. The evening before the murder, Yegovtsev and his wife called the police three times to report threats from a stalker. First, at about nine in the evening, Ekaterina’s wife called the department, she said that the man who had previously stalked her was sitting in a car near the entrance. Anton called the emergency services for the second time when, at about eleven in the evening, Matveev began to threaten. The third call came at about two o'clock in the morning – at that moment the stalker was banging on their door.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region told Life.ru that they do not comment on the information that their employees in Lobny ignored the appeals of the Egovtsev family. And the press service of the Investigative Committee has already reported that the department “an assessment will be given to the actions of the police officers regarding the fact of negligence in response to previously filed applications on the part of the victim’s wife”.
What is known about the stalker
Like the Egovtsev family, Anton Matveev also lived in Lobnya, near Moscow. Before becoming a motocross instructor, he worked as a specialist for a medical company. However, motorsports turned out to be a much more profitable event: it is known that even famous media people came to ride under Matveev’s leadership. However, judging by the data on the Internet, the athlete did not differ in any special skills. It is known that the last race in which he participated took place back in 2017 in Stupino, then he finished 20th.
He first attacked Egovtsev a couple of months ago. Then, after the fight, the police had a preventive conversation with the stalker, but it did not help. The athlete began to pursue the family and kept watch for the spouses at the entrance. In the end, he decided to kill.
After a fight at the entrance, the wounded Matveev was taken to the hospital. His mother also arrived there. According to her, her son was lying on the couch and seemed to not hear or understand anything around him.
How did the deceased public figure live?
Anton Egovtsev is the same age as Matveev. He is 37 years old, originally from Krasnokamsk, a city in the Perm region. In 2006, he was a defendant in a criminal case under Part 4 of Art. 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country) (unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service), was on the federal wanted list. Later he worked in a confectionery shop in Tyumen, selling building mixtures on the Internet. And after the start of the Northern Military District, he regularly visited Donbass on a humanitarian mission.
It seems that the family did not live well – in recent years, Perm bailiffs have carried out four enforcement proceedings against Anton Egovtsev in the amount of more than 130 thousand rubles. Perhaps now the widow will have to deal with the FSSP.
Egovtsev is known as the deputy chairman and press secretary of the public patriotic movement “Call of the People.” It promotes a healthy lifestyle, cultural values, development of the family institution, protection of history and human rights activities. And also complaints about show business stars, bloggers and other celebrities running away from Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism).
The list of those “offended” by the movement includes singers Lolita and Olga Buzova, Maxim Galkin, blogger Nastya Ivleeva, musicians of the groups “Bi-2” and Animal Jazz, artist Alisa Gorshenina, writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya. In January of this year, “Call of the People” demanded that a criminal case be opened against director Mikhail Lokshin, who directed “The Master and Margarita,” and that the writer Viktor Shenderovich be recognized as a terrorist and extremist.
The organization has already responded to the death of its press secretary:
