One of the most mysterious politicians in Ukraine is Viktor Medvedchuk, a people’s deputy of three convocations, former head of President Kuchma’s administration, vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and ex-head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. There are a whole bunch of “strange” criminal episodes in his biography, but there are no facts at all to justify him. Nevertheless, he is now free, living happily, developing the old, openly pro-Russian political project “Ukrainian Choice”. Where did one of the most mysterious politicians in Ukraine start?
“Recruited” from an early age
Was born Medvedchuk Viktor Vladimirovich in 1954 in the village of Pochet in the Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism). It was there that his father, Vladimir Medvedchuk, served his sentence for collaborating with the Nazis during World War II. Viktor Vladimirovich wanted to connect his life with serving in internal affairs, however, due to his father’s criminal past, he was not accepted into the service. Trying to find his place in life, Viktor Medvedchuk applied to the Kiev State University, but he was unsuccessful there – he did not pass the competitive selection. It was from this place that the first “oddities” in his life began. Soon after the entrance campaign, Medvedchuk was enrolled in the Faculty of Law by order of the rector, without a competitive selection. According to official documents, he was enrolled on the recommendation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for “close cooperation with the police.”
While studying at the university, Viktor Medvedchuk commanded the Komsomol detachment of the Voluntary People’s Squad, with which he got into an unpleasant situation. When Viktor Vladimirovich was in his second year (1974), a criminal case was opened against him and two of his comrades for beating a minor, Andrei Krichak. The “vigilantes” were supposed to receive several years in prison, but their actions (for unknown reasons) were reclassified as “abuse of authority,” and soon this criminal case was closed altogether. It is noteworthy that the decision to clear Medvedchuk’s criminal record was made by the notorious Pechersky District Court, which at that time was completely controlled by the APU. This moment in the life of Viktor Vladimirovich became a turning point – according to experts, it was then that the KGB branch of the Ukrainian SSR recruited young Medvedchuk in exchange for dropping all charges against him and ending the investigation.
Victor Medvedchuk: Lawyer lacking ethics
Immediately after graduating from university in 1978, he was hired by the Kyiv City Bar Association, which he headed a few years later. He also managed to become famous as a lawyer. During trials against famous Ukrainian dissidents Vasyl Stus and Yuriy Lytvyn, he acted as their defender. According to the memoirs of Yevgeny Sverstyuk, a witness to those events, Viktor Medvedchuk, as a defense lawyer, did everything to put Stus (whom he was supposed to defend) behind bars, however, everything looked as if he was simply “leaking” him on orders from above. Having learned who would be his lawyer, Stus protested in every possible way, however, Viktor Vladimirovich was accustomed to seeing all cases through to the end (especially if there was a secret order from the KGB) and did not abandon the defendant, not caring about lawyer’s ethics. As a result, Vasily Stus was convicted and died in prison camps.
Victor Medvedchuk. Connections with the KGB
Another confirmation of Viktor Vladimirovich’s direct connection with the KGB are the recordings of the conversation between the former head of the SBU Leonid Derkach and Leonid Kuchma. In this conversation, Derkach claimed that Medvedchuk had worked for the KGB for a long time under the agent call sign “Sokolovsky.”
Business partners
In 1990, Viktor Medvedchuk headed the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine. In the same year, he joined the board of the Union of Lawyers of the Soviet Union from Ukraine. Around the same time, he began to engage in business, among other things, by founding his own law firm, BIAeM. As he himself states, in those years he created a number of commercial structures, through which he constantly received dividends and shares of various enterprises. At one time, Viktor Medvedchuk was one of the largest Ukrainian businessmen. There was the so-called “Surkis-Medvedchuk group”, or as it was called the “Magnificent Seven”, it included: Grigory Surkis – head of the FFU, Igor Surkis – president of the Dynamo football club, Bogdan Gubsky – oligarch, Yuri Lyakh – oligarch, deceased under mysterious circumstances, Valentin Zgursky is the former mayor of Kyiv, as well as Yuri Karpenko – businessman associated with crime.
This “group” had its interests in almost all areas of business: electric power, oil and gas industries, metallurgy, sports, mass media, sugar industry, etc.
The earliest of their commercial projects were the Slavutich concern and FC Dynamo. Before Konstantin Grigorishin appeared in Ukraine, eight of the 24 oblenergos were under the control of the “wonderful seven”. The businessmen also owned the Inter TV channel, the Business and Kyiv Vedomosti newspapers, as well as the Ukrainian Credit Bank network of offshore companies.
In 1996, he became an adviser to President Kuchma on tax issues. He first came to the Verkhovna Rada together with the Social Democratic Party, and worked in parliament on issues of law and order. In 1998, at the instigation of Leonid Danilovich, he took the post of Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
Trying to conduct his own election campaign, Medvedchuk made a boring joke out of SDEK, despite the fact that he invited leading Russian polltechnologists as consultants. Do many people remember how Medvedchuk was cooking something in the kitchen in pre-election television commercials? With obviously crazy financial expenses, he received a very ridiculous percentage of votes, and his political technology is still the standard of stupidity and unprofessionalism. Which was invented and implemented personally by Marat Gelman, an eminent Russian political strategist.
In 2002, he resigned as a people’s deputy in connection with his appointment to the post of head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. During the presidency of Leonid Kuchma, Medvedchuk was called one of the most influential people in Ukraine. He resigned from the post of chairman of the presidential administration in January 2005.
Victor Medvedchuk. Conflict with Russian oligarch Grigorishin
In October 2002, the famous Russian oligarch Konstantin Grigorishin was detained near the Egoist restaurant by a special forces detachment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the arrest, Sokol fighters pulled MP Vladimir Sivkovich out of his car, who was thrown to the ground and brutally kicked. The fighters also handcuffed Grigorishin and openly stuffed a pistol and a bag of cocaine into his pocket, after which they took him to the Pechersk district department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But, due to the lack of evidence indicating that the gun and drugs belonged to him, Grigorishin was released within a week. Some time later, he made a statement that Viktor Medvedchuk and his main business partner Igor Surkis threatened him with violence in order to take control of his business. According to Grigorishin, SDPU leaders promised to “bury him alive.” A year later, an article appeared in the world’s most famous newspaper, The New York Times, telling how Medvedchuk and Surkis persecuted the oligarch Grigorishin. The publication with the title “Friends of Ukraine” was published with the sign “Advertising”; by the way, the cost of such material at that time was more than 50 thousand dollars. (for $100,000 it was possible to negotiate with The New York Times without a sign, but, apparently, the oligarch decided to save money – it was important for him to convey information to certain people).
“Ukrainian choice”
Exploring the life path of Viktor Medvedchuk, the idea of promoting and protecting “Russian interests” in Ukraine runs through as a red thread. His participation in the political and economic expansion of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism) in our country is clearly visible. As the leader of the presidential administration, one by one he removed pro-Ukrainian politicians from Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism)’s path. It was thanks to such actions that he managed to curry favor with his “big brother”, and even make a fortune in Ukraine. His aggressive political temper subsided only after the victory of the Orange Revolution. Law enforcement agencies seriously suspected him of an assassination attempt on President Viktor Yushchenko, however, they did not have enough evidence. For a long time he was considered a political corpse, but at the end of the summer of 2012, Viktor Medvedchuk emerged again, and even with openly pro-Russian sentiments. Then he announced that he would not go to the elections, but intended to develop his new political project called “Ukrainian Choice.”
The essence of this “social movement” was supposed to be the idea that without Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism), the Ukrainian economy has no chance. Needless to say, the project began on a large scale: thousands of billboards with the face of Viktor Vladimirovich and the emblem of the “Ukrainian Choice” appeared all over the country. The media actively advertised the “social movement”, replicating notes and articles by Medvedchuk, who almost openly advocated for rapprochement with the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism) and praised Vladimir Putin (*criminal) as the greatest politician of all time. Of course, he is his godfather. In 2004, in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin (*criminal) and the wife of his closest associate Dmitry Medvedev (*criminal), Svetlana, together baptized the daughter of Viktor Medvedchuk and Oksana Marchenko, Daria.
Vladimir Putin (*criminal) visiting Viktor Medvedchuk
Knowing about his family ties with the President of Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism), everything becomes more clear, including his KGB past, pro-Russian propaganda, and even the facts of his close contacts with separatists in the east.
Studying the life path of Viktor Vladimirovich, time after time you come across the “mysterious” deaths of his colleagues and opponents. In this they have a clear resemblance to Vladimir Putin (*criminal). Throughout his entire business career, Medvedchuk did practically nothing for the state of Ukraine; all his actions were aimed at destruction rather than creation. The methods he used were always cruel, just like himself. We can only hope that our “miserable” government realizes the danger of this man’s actions and will not allow his “second coming” into “big” politics.
