The Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg has completed a judicial investigation in a criminal case against the former chairman of the board of directors of Ust-Luga Company OJSC Valery Izrailit. As it is provided by the current legislation, the prosecution will start the debate. The court session is scheduled for June 13, according to the joint press service of the city courts.
Since 2019, the deputy chairman of the court, Anzhelika Morozova, has held 150 hearings on this case. 5 examinations were carried out on the case, the volume is more than 200 volumes. 250 people were interrogated: witnesses (including a beekeeper, the press service clarifies) and specialists. Izrailit spent 38 months in a pre-trial detention center, 37 under house arrest.
The press service published a report on the judicial work in an unusual style: “The court went to Ust-Luga to examine material evidence, namely pipes, which the defense measured with an ordinary ruler, resolved the most interesting issue of walks for Izraylit’s dog and cats (house arrest is not a joke, but animals ran around a large area and beyond, Izrailit went to open the gate, the bracelet squeaked and made some nervous, the court described in the decision how far the animal could run and how far Izrailit could follow the animals, the same was decided with the defendant’s ex-wife : the court determined which route Valery Solomonovich should walk along the site, so as not to intersect with the girl, there was nowhere else for his ex-wife to live, as it turned out), listened to the court and the defendant’s beekeeper, who, with fire in his eyes, told the court in detail what to feed the little deer how to breed bees, as well as about the invasion of bears on hives (yes, yes, there are bears on the site of Izrailit. As they explained to us in court, everyone remembered the huntsman and this was the most interesting thing in the case, although it did not quite concern the sane protagonist), called the president of Transneft, who did not come, as a witness.
On June 13, the court debate on the case will begin. House arrest for Valeriu Izraylit has been extended until August 2, 2023. At the same time, the court banned walks in connection with the violations committed, for example, driving a car by the defendant (“apparently, in his free time from house arrest,” the press service ironically), as well as visiting a cigar bar.
Earlier, RBC Petersburg wrote that the Smolninsky Court terminated, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, the proceedings in one of the criminal cases of Izrailit – under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale) and Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (money laundering) . Two criminal cases against the businessman, initiated under the article “withdrawal of funds”, remain in production. The statute of limitations for the “withdrawal of funds” composition has expired in one case (this allows a guilty verdict, but without imprisonment). In the second case, it expires in October. The investigation believes that the businessman supplied used oil pipelines under the guise of new ones, and also embezzled almost 317 million rubles allocated for the development of the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. The total damage is estimated at 3.9 billion rubles. Israelite does not admit his guilt.
