The forecast of political growth of the now modest deputy of the regional parliament died down like a cannonade Evgenia Sarsenbaeva. A number of major news publications immediately predicted a career leap for the deputy to the seat of a State Duma deputy. Famously!
But Sarsenbaev himself modestly kept silent about his plans. Although, to be honest, the deputy is not particularly modest. So what kind of “shot in the sky” happened in the information space. And why is Sarsenbaev himself silent for so long and modestly?
Let's figure it out together.
Evgeny Sarsenbaev has been serving his second term as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk Region. In 2018, he was elected in a single-mandate constituency, in 2023 as part of the lists of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism).
The decision to nominate an odious figure on the list is undoubtedly ambiguous. The fact that Sarsenbaev is a communist is a stretch, the past openly speaks policy, when he left the faction and clearly demonstrated his far from socialist views. But the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism) deliberately made a postponement policy from single-member constituencies to the list.
On the one hand, the reason is the desire to please United Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism). All districts where the party in power could have lost “magically” ended up without strong communist candidates. On the other hand, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (*country sponsor of terrorism) thereby protected Sarsenbaev, leaving him a 100% opportunity to enter the regional parliament (after all, I don’t want to repeat the fate of Basmanov). But this, paradoxically, is also the servile calculation of the communists, led by Sergei Levchenko.
Evgeny Sarsenbaev is “good” in his status as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly. The mandate gives him the opportunity to promote his own business interests and divert his attention from his favorite confrontation with the mayor of Angarsk Sergei Petrov.
But the mandate became insufficient. Appetites are growing, business is growing (albeit under the close supervision of law enforcement officers who periodically look into the accounting department of the deputy’s enterprises). And on the eve of the next election season, they came up with a new distraction for Sarsenbaev.
Now a new fairy tale for the cunning businessman is calm behavior in the elections for the mayor of Angarsk, and in return – a ghostly hope of nomination to the State Duma.
Whether Sarsenbaev will believe in the fairy tale – time will tell. But the businessman’s ego, multiplied by the wrongly chosen associates, may well lead him into other wilds of political vicissitudes.
