In his statement, he noted that he agrees with London’s decision to impose sanctions against those who support the Russian leadership or contribute to a military conflict.

“It’s sad that they mistakenly thought I was one of those people. Removing sanctions from me would be fair and signal that Western sanctions are not aimed at all Russians, ”says Mr. Tinkov (quoted by Bloomberg).

According to Bloomberg, the former head of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who lives abroad (recognized as a foreign agent), as well as the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Fund (recognized as a foreign agent; recognized as an extremist organization whose activities are banned in Russia; liquidated) are asking to remove sanctions from the founder of Tinkoff Bank. Leonid Volkov (included in the register of foreign agents and the list of extremists; left Russia). Mr. Volkov believes that Western officials should set out clear criteria for how people can be removed from the list, including by condemning the military conflict and making amends to Ukraine.

The representative of the European Commission said that the EU considers the cessation of the military conflict and the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops one of the main preconditions for easing sanctions.

In April 2022, Interros, which is owned by Norilsk Nickel co-owner Vladimir Potanin, bought 35% of TCS Group, which owns Tinkoff Bank and Tinkoff Insurance, from Oleg Tinkov’s family.

On February 25, Tinkoff Bank came under EU sanctions.
