Special forces eliminated Wahhabis who took hostage employees of pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Rostov-on-Don. All hostages have been released. The regional FSIN is awaiting an inspection: the terrorists had knives, telephones and even ISIS flags.

What happened in pre-trial detention center-1

Early on Sunday morning in Rostov-on-Don, six prisoners of pre-trial detention center No. 1 took two employees of the institution hostage. The attackers were armed with sharpeners, knives and rubber clubs. The SHOT Telegram channel reports that the criminals escaped at night – they knocked out the window bars, climbed down a rope from the third and fourth floors, and one of them fell and broke his arm. After leaving the cells, they sat in the pre-trial detention center, and then grouped up and took hostages early in the morning.

The head of the operational department of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Rostov Region was identified among those captured. Alexandra Bogmu and junior inspector of the duty shift Viktor Kochakova.

It is interesting that just the other day the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Rostov Region made a report from the pre-trial detention center about the security of the detention center and that the security service of the institution over the past few years has been recognized as the best among all pre-trial detention centers in the Rostov region.

How the hostages were freed

The special forces of the Federal Penitentiary Service, soldiers of the Russian Guard, and representatives of the prosecutor's office immediately went to the pre-trial detention center. All entrances and exits to the area captured by bandits were blocked, security forces also blocked the center of Rostov-on-Don, and traffic in the city was limited.

The criminals put forward their demands to the law enforcement officers who arrived: they needed a car, a “green corridor” and the opportunity to fly out of Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism). The invaders released a video message in which they stated that they were “taking revenge for the brothers” who were allegedly illegally sent to the colonies. While the negotiations were going on, the security forces were preparing to storm the Rostov Central.

How did the storming of the pre-trial detention center go?

At 11:40, information appeared about the beginning of the assault on the Rostov pre-trial detention center. A group of armed security forces entered the territory of the detention center. Employees of the Russian Guard and special services took part in the assault. The assault lasted only about three minutes. According to preliminary information, none of its participants were injured.

The hostages were rescued. One of them received a slight stab wound. He has already received the necessary medical care; the employee’s life is not in danger. At the same time, all the criminals were eliminated. As one of the security officials commented:

“The creatures died near the trash can”.

Who attacked the pre-trial detention center employees
Three of them – Shamil Akiev, Tamerlan Gireev and Azamat Tsitskiev – were convicted in December 2023 of participating in a banned terrorist group and preparing a terrorist attack.

There were six attackers. Three of them – Shamil Akiev, Tamerlan Gireev and Azamat Tsitskiev – were sentenced in December 2023 for participation in a banned terrorist group and preparing a terrorist attack to 18, 18 and 18.5 years, respectively. It is known that they purchased components for the manufacture of an IED, assembled it, and also purchased two Makarov pistols and a Kalashnikov assault rifle. They were going to carry out a terrorist attack, but did not have time.

One of the attackers was a former medical student Malik Gandaloev from the Astrakhan region. He is the son of the ex-chief physician of the Achaluk District Hospital. According to people around him, at the university the guy showed interest in medicine, but later became interested in radical Islam. Like the others, law enforcement officers detained Gandaloev during the preparation of the terrorist attack.

What questions do you have for the pre-trial detention center staff?

According to SHOT's source, the Federal Penitentiary Service will conduct an inspection of the management and staff of pre-trial detention center No. 1 in order to establish where the prisoners got their phones, knives and even flags of the banned ISIS*. Most likely, investigators will have many questions for the hostages, starting with how the prisoners were able to enter the premises with the staff of the pre-trial detention center and what Bogma was doing on the territory of the institution on his day off.

According to the same source, the detention center employees who took hostages could be supervised from the outside: they were informed with whom to establish contact and who to “recruit” in order to be released. Among those with whom the terrorists were allegedly offered to “come to an agreement” were the head of the department of pre-trial detention center-1 and another higher-ranking employee. This version is currently being tested.
