Kairat Satybaldy’s wives are deprived of real estate
Another trial of Nursultan Nazarbayev’s nephew continues in Kazakhstan Kairat Satybaldy. At the end of September 2022 it will already be sentenced to six years imprisonment for theft and causing material damage to the telecommunications operator Kazakhtelecom, in which a relative of the first president owned a large stake. In a new criminal case, Satybaldy is accused of laundering proceeds from crime. Under this article he faces from five to ten years in prison. But, probably, the sentence will be milder – Satybaldy made a deal with the investigation, admitted his guilt and announced his readiness to return the “laundered” assets to the state.
When asked by Judge Baglan Idirisov whether the defendant admits guilt, Satybaldy replied: “I admit it, dear court. In full”.
The next meeting has been postponed indefinitely.
Since the beginning of the campaign to return assets to the country, which started after the January events and the removal of the Nazarbayev clan from power, Kairat Satybaldy, judging by reports from the Anti-Corruption Service, returned to the budget hundreds of millions of dollars. Of the almost $600 million of assets returned to Kazakhstan, more than half falls on the share of Kairat Satybaldy.
The list of confiscated property from Kairat includes real estate, transport, bank deposits, and securities. Moreover, they take away assets not only from himself, but also from his ex-wives and unofficial wives. Yes, the Russian woman Marcela Nursultan, Satybalda’s youngest wife, took away apartments in the elite Moscow residential complex “Golden Keys” worth 1 billion tenge. The apartment, which was owned by Marcela, a former hairdresser from Kalmykia, was included in the list of real estate published by the Anti-Corruption Service.
In the same video a certain house on the Antibes peninsula in the south of France also appeared. “Sea Access” had no trouble finding this “house”, which in fact turned out to be the luxury residential complex Parc du Cap’s. According to the anticorrosive agency, the total value of the property confiscated from Satybalda in Parc du Cap’s is almost €8.5 million, or 4.2 billion tenge.
This is a really cool complex. Everything is within walking distance – Michelin-starred restaurants, an excellent beach and one of the largest yacht anchorages in France. The complex itself is equipped with a reliable security system, there is underground parking, a gym, a spa center, saunas, swimming pools and a gorgeous view of the bay.
On December 22, 2017, in the neighboring Principality of Monaco, in a business center just an hour away from Parc du Cap’s by car, four companies were opened: KS Propriete, SK Propriete, AB Propriete and GK Propriete. Then these companies bought four three-room apartments in a residential complex we already knew. Now there are no such apartments for sale, but thanks to the website of the residential complex, you can form some impression about them – expensive finishing materials, modern climate control systems, terraces with views, etc.
As you might guess, the first two letters in the names of Monegasque companies are the initials of their owners. Accordingly, these are Kairat Satybaldy, Said Kanatbekkyz, Asel Bakhtiyarkyzy and Gulmira Kauaskyzy. The last three are Kairat’s wives.
Gulmira, who bore the last name of Satybaldy and was his official wife, is now serving an eight-year sentence for embezzlement and embezzlement. And Saida and Asel, who previously appeared in our publications, ran with Kairat not only a common household, but also a fairly diversified business. It belonged to them real estate in Dubai, which, judging by the reports of the anticorrosive agent, probably also fell under confiscation. We can only state that Nursultan Nazarbayev’s family has lost another access to the sea. This time to the Mediterranean.
The Russian “wife” of Kairat Satybalda had her apartment in Moscow taken away
The Kazakh authorities are seizing assets not only from relatives of ex-President Nazarbayev who are under investigation, but also from their immediate circle. A video published by the Anti-Corruption Service in November last year lists “illegally acquired” assets that the agency managed to seize in favor of the state. Among them, apartment No. 25 is mentioned in the elite Moscow residential complex “Golden Keys”. Until recently, these two-level apartments with an area of 272 m² and a market value of almost 1 billion tenge were owned by one of the unofficial wives of Nazarbayev’s nephew Kairat Satybaldy, a native of Kalmykia Marcela Nursultan (real surname Alexandrova, another surname is Martirosyan). The fact that Marcela is an unofficial wife Kairat Satybaldy, we described in detail in our previous text. She was one of the interlocutors in a video call between Satybaldy, who was in detention center at that time and awaiting sentencing, with his relatives. Subsequently recording of this conversation appeared on the Internet.
Thanks to leaks from Russian databases, we were able to establish her identity. So we found out that Marcela Aleksandrovna Nursultan previously had the surname Martirosyan, and her first surname was Alexandrova. She was born […] November 1987 in Gorodovikovsk – a small town (less than 10 thousand inhabitants) in Kalmykia. She lived in Stavropol for some time, then moved to Moscow. The fact that Marcela Alexandrova-Martirosyan-Nursultan is the same person can be proven simply: by the common insurance number, taxpayer number and data on the change of Russian passports. The place of birth and Moscow registration also coincide. In 2019, Alexandrova and Martirosyan first received two Mercedes GLA 250 and Toyota Corolla cars, and a year later, when Marcela was given a new passport with the surname Nursultan, these cars “got” to her. The owner of the apartment seized by the Kazakh authorities was former hairdresser Marcela Nursultana, with a salary of 50 thousand rubles (we learned this fact from leaks from the Russian Tax Service) in 2019.
In September 2022, a court in Astana sentenced Kairat Satybaldy to six years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on working in public service for 10 years in a case of grand theft. During the trial, it was stated that Satybaldy paid tens of billions of tenge as compensation for the claimed damage to the Kazakhtelecom and Transport Service Center companies, which were the injured parties. The parties entered into a mediation agreement. Now another criminal case is being investigated against him for laundering criminal proceeds, in which Nazarbayev’s nephew faces another seven years in prison.
It is obvious that transferring assets to nominal owners or expensive gifts made to loved ones, like Marcela’s Moscow apartment, could not guarantee their safety. At the beginning of January this year, Antikor reported on the seizure of property (real estate, deposits, investments and jewelry) worth 650 billion tenge from Satybalda.
Kairat Satybaldy: apartments in Dubai, garbage business, mining and friendship with Kadyrov
Yesterday, the capital’s court arrested Nursultan Nazarbayev’s nephew Kairat Satybaldy for two months. A few days earlier, anticorrosive agents detained him at Almaty airport while trying to fly to Dubai. For now, the criminal case against Nazarbayev’s nephew is being investigated for theft at Kazakhtelecom JSC, in which Satybaldy, through the Luxembourg Skyline Investment Company, owns a 22% stake. Investigators reported that they are checking his involvement in crimes that “undermine the security of the state.” Elbasy’s nephew tried to escape to Dubai for a reason. Access to the Sea managed to find out that he owns at least two real estate properties in this country. These are apartments No. 6t4-904 at 392 Al Marsa street Dubai Marina and No. 201 in the Jumeirah Beach Residence residential complex. Due to the closed nature of real estate registers in the UAE, we do not know the exact parameters of the apartments. But this is very expensive real estate, located in the most elite area of Dubai on the shores of the Persian Gulf. The average cost of apartments in Jumeirah Beach Residence is estimated at $2 million. Apartments in the tower at the first address, where the luxury Radson Blu hotel is located, cost approximately the same.
These apartments, through the New Zealand company Khassanat Trustees Limited (liquidated in 2018), were registered in the name of two women – Asel Bakhtiyarkyzy and Saida Kanatbekkyzy. Both are long-time partners of Kairat Satybaldy, and Asel, as Radio Liberty journalists established, is his unofficial wife – she also owns Kairat’s palace in Almaty. According to the list of Kaspi.kz affiliates for 2018 (Kairat was then a shareholder of the fintech), Asel and Saida, together with Satybaldy, owned two LLPs: Aisam Co LTD and Luna. Both partnerships specialize in real estate transactions and are registered in the Karasai district of the Almaty region – the family nest of the Nazarbayevs.
In 2015, the media wrote that several more limited liability partnerships were registered for these women. They controlled shopping centers and parking lots at the Almaty flea market and in the Green Bazaar area, and their partners controlled the garbage business. Asel and Saida were listed as beneficiaries of the London company AB SK LTD. Judging by the documents, there were no assets in this company; it has now been liquidated.
One of the lawyers of the New Zealand firm through which Satybalda’s apartments in Dubai were registered, Muhammad Ali Shazad Hussein, is the director of Long Life Energy FZE (UAE). This company owns the Sogrinskaya CHPP in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The thermal power plant from East Kazakhstan region, along with Ridder thermal power plant JSC, lobbied for the interests of miners, in whose business Satybaldy was interested. Yesterday, the financial monitoring agency announced the liquidation of dozens of mining companies associated with the Nazarbayev family.
KNB Major General Kairat Satybaldy (he worked in the intelligence service as its deputy chairman Nurtai Dutbaev) has interests not only in Kazakhstan and the UAE, but also, apparently, in neighboring Russia (*aggressor country). According to Russian Muslim public figure Abdul Niyazov, Satybaldy became friends with Ramzan Kadyrov and even sponsored the construction of one of the largest mosques in Russia (*aggressor country), the “Heart of Chechnya.”
