The Khostinsky District Court of Sochi sentenced Oleg Molchanov, the former head of the city line department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on transport, to three years and six months in a penal colony for taking bribes and abuse of authority. About it informed joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory.

The court also fined Molchanov 1 million rubles. and banned him from holding positions related to the performance of the functions of a representative of power for four years.

Molchanov was sentenced under articles on abuse of power (part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code) and taking a bribe (part 3 and part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code). The prosecution believes that he, being the head of the Sochi Line Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for transport, ate free meals at the Brigantina cafe or enjoyed a 50% discount in this cafe for a long time. The services that Molchanov received were estimated by the prosecution at 1.5 million rubles.

In addition, through an intermediary Andrei Ostrovsky (also convicted in this case), Molchanov received bribes from the organizers of boat trips in the seaport of Sochi. The court concluded that Molchanov used this service for free.

The former head of the line department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was found guilty of two episodes of abuse of power and four bribe taking. Molchanov pleaded not guilty.

Andrey Ostrovsky, who was an intermediary for Molchanov, was sentenced by the court to three years and three months of probation for mediation in receiving a bribe by a person using his official position (part 2 of article 291.1 of the Criminal Code). He was also sentenced under the article on illegal business (Article 171 of the Criminal Code). In addition, Ostrovsky was fined 300 thousand rubles.

Later, Oleg Molchanov worked in the Department of Internal Affairs for air and water transport in Moscow. In December 2006, a police colonel was appointed head of the Sochi Linear Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior for Transport. Oleg Anatolyevich Molchanov has state and departmental awards.
