In Novosibirsk, the Sovetsky District Court recognized the former chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexandra Aseeva guilty of fraud and sentenced him to four years probation, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courtroom. This decision was made by Judge Anna Panova.
She also fined the academician 0.5 million rubles.
The court returned to the state the cottage, which became the subject of an investigation, which, according to the court and the investigation, the defendant received for official use and then privatized.
Aseev said he would appeal the verdict. “There was no trial,” he said.

The prosecution asked the court to find the academician guilty under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed using his official position on an especially large scale) and sentence him to five years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 3 years with a fine of 500 thousand rubles. The defense asked him to be acquitted.
According to the investigation, in 2009-2010, Aseev, while holding the post of chairman of the SB RAS, convinced the members of the presidium of the SB RAS to reconstruct and provide him with a cottage for official use – as a representative residence. After an expensive repair, Aseev entered into rental agreements for this residential premises in 2013, and in 2015, by submitting false documents to the Sovetsky District Court of Novosibirsk, he privatized the property in favor of his daughter, who lived at that time in France, according to the case file. The academician himself, according to the investigation, had no right to improve his living conditions.

It acted as a customer for the construction of a residential complex of six multi-storey buildings at the intersection of Tereshkova Street and Koptyuga Avenue. The proceeds from the sale of part of the apartments, NP “AZhS-1” was to be used to improve the living conditions of the employees of the SB RAS. Formally, Academzhilstroy-1 did not violate its obligations: Alexander Aseev was indeed an employee of the SB RAS, and he really improved his living conditions – 600 sq. m of the total area of the cottage is better than 140 sq. m in the apartment. And, by the way, not 14, but 17 million rubles were allocated from NP “AZhS-1” for the construction of the cottage of the Aseev family. — Inset K.ru
The criminal case against Aseev was initiated in September 2020. The investigation estimated the damage to the state at almost 46 million rubles.
Earlier, Aseev also repeatedly declared his innocence.
Aseev headed the SB RAS in 2008-2017.

Alexander Aseev headed the Novosibirsk Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences for 15 years. He is a specialist in atomic structure, electronic properties and diagnostics of semiconductor systems. He was elected Chairman of the SB RAS twice: in 2008 and 2013.
