Former Minister of Transport of Karelia Alexey Kaydalov found guilty of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale during the reconstruction of the Petrozavodsk airport.
Petrozavodsk City Court sentenced Kaidalov on Monday, November 21, to 15 years in prison in a strict regime colony, the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Karelia reports.
The ex-head of the Karelian Ministry of Transport was also fined 40 million rubles and deprived of the right to hold public office for 10 years. The court verdict did not enter into force, Kaydalov’s defense announced that they would appeal against it.

The court found Kaydalov’s guilt proved, he was charged with taking two bribes. According to the investigation, together with the deputy director of the Petrozavodsk Airport budgetary institution, Igor Volchek, Kaydalov received a bribe of 800,000 rubles from one of the airport reconstruction contractors, the first part of the amount of 1.5 million rubles.
Another contractor from St. Petersburg gave Kaidalov and Volchek another 1 million rubles – part of a bribe of 3 million rubles.
For these amounts, the contractors were promised assistance in concluding a contract, as well as unhindered acceptance and payment for the work performed on the construction of facilities on the territory of Petrozavodsk airport. The state contract for these works worth more than 820 million rubles was signed in August 2019.

Kaydalov and Volchek were detained in February 2020 in one of the shopping and entertainment centers in Petrozavodsk while receiving a bribe. During a search in the pocket of the sheepskin coat of the head of the Ministry of Transport, the security forces found almost 300 thousand rubles. Kaydalov pleaded not guilty, he stated in court that he was the victim of a slander. Volchek was sentenced to 4 years in prison in February last year. He was also fined 7 million rubles. The investigation of the criminal case against the ex-minister was completed last year, “DP” wrote.
Aleksey Kaidalov has been in the government of Karelia since 2018, before that he worked in St. Petersburg, including in the structures of the city government.

The cost of such watches, according to the official websites of trademarks, starts from hundreds of thousands of rubles and reaches up to 500 thousand dollars. But there are also more expensive models.

Recall that a former employee of the administration of St. Petersburg Alexei Kaydalov, who from November 2014 to August 2016 was the vice-governor and at the same time the head of the Department of Construction, Housing, Energy and Transport of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, was considered one of the wealthiest members of the team Artur Parfenchikov.
According to the latest income declaration of the former head of the Ministry of Transport, in 2018, Mr. Kaydalov, together with his wife, owned several apartments and land plots.
