Aleksey Shevtsov, commander of the 1st battalion of the traffic police regiment of the traffic police of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Central District of the capital, was sentenced to a fine by the Basmanny District Court of Moscow. A 41-year-old man is accused of abuse of office. According to the information provided, the defendant pointed out that the culprit of the accident was not a familiar operative, but his father. However, the participant in the accident could not avoid criminal liability: he was sentenced to five years in prison. It is reported by “Kommersant”.
It is specified that the accident that caused this trial occurred in December 2019 on Pokrovka Street. The detective of the Criminal Investigation Department of the OMVD in the Basmanny District, junior police lieutenant Maxim Safronov, in his Mitsubishi Pajero, knocked down a man at an unregulated crossing. The victim received serious injuries.
Traffic police officers arrived at the scene of the incident, including Aleksey Shevtsov. Safronov decided to take advantage of this and asked the battalion commander to point out his father as the culprit of the accident so that as a police officer he would not receive a more severe punishment. The protocol was drawn up as requested by the perpetrator of the accident, however, later it became known that a police officer was still driving. By the verdict of the Basmanny Court, the officer was sentenced to a five-year term, and the inspector who filed an accident for another person sat down for three years.
“Kommersant”, 03/14/2023, “The battalion commander attributed the accident to the father”: Like his colleagues, the battalion commander Shevtsov refused to admit his guilt, arguing that on December 28 he was only inspecting the work of his subordinates and could not give instructions to anyone. At the same time, he claimed that the father of Lieutenant Safronov, who later fled the scene, was indeed driving the Mitsubishi Pajero. And the officer’s father was driving because Maxim Safronov allegedly forgot his driver’s license at home and could not drive a vehicle. — Inset K.ru
Aleksey Shevtsov, who was under house arrest, came to court with his son, who decided to support his father. During the meeting, the chairwoman Elena Lenskaya, having announced the introductory and operative parts of the verdict, announced that Aleksey Shevtsov was found guilty of abuse of office (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced to a fine of 60 thousand rubles. His convict will have to pay after the entry into force of the sentence.
After the trial, Shevtsov said that he did not agree with the fine either. “I didn’t give any instructions to my subordinate, but this case was simply hung up on me,” he said. “I will appeal the verdict.”
