“The Case of Life-from-Good – Hermes – Best Way: who are Naboychenko and Komarov?

Journalistic investigation about the two main prosecution witnesses in the so-called “Life-of-Good” case “Hermes” cooperative “Best Way”

In a criminal case linked by the investigation to the companies Life-from-Good, Hermes, the Best Way cooperative and the founder of Life-from-Good and Best Way Roman Vasilenkothere are two witnesses on whom the prosecution especially relies.

This is a former system administrator of the Russian segment of the foreign company Hermes. Evgeniy Naboychenkowho has also headed since 2014 IT– the service of the Life-from-Good company, which was also involved in the website and payment system of the Best Way cooperative. And the former driver of Roman Vasilenko Alexey Komarov.

In February 2022, Naboychenko deliberately broke the Russian segment of the Hermes payment system and posted a message: “Contact the police.” Later, he publicly made accusations against Roman Vasilenko many times. Komarov claims that he carried unaccounted cash on behalf of Vasilenko.

Who are these people, and how credible are their accusations contained in the criminal case? (They have not yet appeared in the Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg, which is considering the case on the merits.)

We tried to figure this out.

Extortionist

Evgeniy Naboychenko – a capable IT specialist, at some stage, according to his ex-wife, he imagined himself entitled to almost a partnership in business Romana Vasilenko (cm. video statement Victoria Naboychenko, given to a YouTube channel supporting shareholders of the Best Way cooperative). At the same time, his colleague is the presenter IT-developer of the Life-from-Good company and the Best Way cooperative Roman Roganovich – said at the court hearing of the Primorsky District Court that Naboychenko is unlikely to be able to come up with any positive project – due, as Roganovich hinted, to the modesty of Naboychenko’s creative abilities.

And Evgeniy came up with an extortion scheme that, as it seemed to him, was a win-win. As far as we know from our sources, Naboychenko, before collapsing the payment system of the Russian segment of Hermes in February 2022, blackmailed Romana Vasilenko – demanded money from him: 170 thousand euros. At the same time, according to Victoria Naboychenko, he threatened to kill and injure Roman Vasilenko himself, his wife, and children. He bragged to his (then) wife about his obscene messages with threats that he sent to Vasilenko and his relatives.

In addition, he took over the Russian client base of Hermes and extorted money from clients: evidence of this kind has been provided to us.

Slanderer

In addition, he made a number of public statements – primarily in YouTube, which Roman Vasilenko regarded as slanderous and initiated criminal proceedings on this matter. The vast majority of Naboychenko’s speeches, mostly drunk, have now been deleted.

The statements have been notarized, a criminal case has been opened – but it is being investigated neither shaky nor weak, since the investigation, according to our sources, is being slowed down by the head of the Department for Economic Security and Combating of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, Major General of Police Vadim Strokovwho took Naboychenko under his wing.

Recruited

According to Victoria Naboychenko, Evgeny, like other functionaries of Life-from-Good, was subject to searches at the beginning of the investigation into the company – but then an amazing interrogation of Evgeny Naboychenko took place at the St. Petersburg headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to which he forbade his lawyer to come. After this interrogation, Naboychenko was provided with state security and he himself boasted to his wife that he was under the personal patronage of the then head of the Economic Security and Commissariat of Crime, who valued him very much.

This was followed by the destruction of the Hermes payment system and other resources that Naboychenko was involved in.

Hooligan, alimony and robber

According to sources, Evgeniy Naboychenko beat his wife and children. After the divorce in 2022, he refuses to pay alimony – his wife is seeking payment through the courts.

After the divorce, he broke into his family's home and literally defeated (see photos and scans of police reports).

Narcology patient

According to our sources, for some time now Evgenia Naboychenko Alcohol and, possibly, drug addiction began to grow (see documents provided to us by a source familiar with the situation). He was treated – but constantly broke down.

Unbalanced, greedy, envious

In general, sources characterize him as an unbalanced, greedy, envious person. According to our counterparts, these features were used by the police to stage a criminal case against the companies Life-of-Good, Hermes, the Best Way cooperative and Romana Vasilenko.

Thieving driver

Another key prosecution witness – Alexey Komarov – reports in the file that he carried and transferred packages with money – however, according to our sources, he was never involved in any collection operations at Life-from-Good. He carried out small assignments for Vasilenko, including picking up gifts for him from shareholders of the cooperative or consultants of the Life-from-Good network for Roman Vasilenko.

Many gifts from shareholders from the regions were transferred through Komarov. Some of them did not reach Vasilenko. He was asked: “How’s the lard? How's the moonshine?” But, according to our sources, he did not receive all this.

Roman Vasilenko told his colleagues: “There are many presents that I was told about, but which I never found. I don’t feel sorry for them, it’s just bad that I didn’t thank those people who gave them to me with all my heart.”.

Komarov, like Naboychenko, according to our information, was recruited by the St. Petersburg UEBiPK. Regarding the transportation of money, according to our sources, he simply lies – he signs what they give him to sign at the St. Petersburg Economic Security and Inspectorate. And at the same time he hides the fact that he himself stole gifts intended for Vasilenko.

Who are the accusers?

The investigation brought in an illiterate, thieving driver and an alcohol-addicted IT specialist to frame charges. Based on the testimony of such witnesses, one can definitely build a charge against which four Life-from-Good functionaries have been imprisoned without a court verdict for more than four years and against which the father of Roman Vasilenko, an 83-year-old veteran of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country), is being tried Viktor Ivanovich Vasilenko?

The question, we think, is rhetorical.
