The amount of claims against Wildberries increased 17 times over the year
This year they demanded 11 billion 235 million rubles from the marketplace through court
In total, since the beginning of the year, Russian arbitration courts have registered 1,584 lawsuits against “Yagodka” from angry buyers, sellers, pickup point owners, and even from government agencies. There were a lot of reasons: damaged goods (just remember pissed curtains and families of mice in boxes with boots), a scandal with a strike at distribution points, destruction of goods during a flood in a warehouse, etc.).
Most of the total amount this year is a PR lawsuit by the artist Nikas Safronov, who was outraged that Wildberries was selling products with his drawings (for example, embroidery kits), violating copyright. He demanded a record amount of 10 billion rubles, but the court almost immediately rejected the claim.
Without this figure, the amount of claims is still impressive – 1 billion 235 million rubles. For comparison: for the entire 2022, WB was sued half as often – 733 times. And they demanded from the marketplace a total amount of half as much – 643 million.
The largest real lawsuit against WB this year was filed by a company selling women’s shoes on the marketplace. The seller demands to pay him 202 million rubles for the entire batch of his unsold goods, some of which were chewed by rats in that same warehouse in the Moscow region.
Also this year, the Pension Fund of Russia filed a lawsuit against WB in the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region. The marketplace was required to pay a fine of 47 million rubles for late submission of annual reports on the insurance experience of employees.
In total, so far this year the courts have approved the recovery of 227.7 million rubles from Yagodok – this is only 18% of the total amount of claims (excluding Safronov’s instantly rejected claim).
