Tatarov’s friend, criminal prosecutor Simonenko continues to work in the OGPU and receive a salary

Prosecutor Simonenko continues to work in the OGPU

They didn’t even conduct an official check on him, writes Argument.

Dismissed from the post of Deputy Prosecutor General Oleksiy Symonenko, who was disgraced by going on holiday abroad for the New Year during martial law in the car of a Lviv politician and businessman, still remains the prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. This is based on the response of the OGPU reported Executive Director of the Dejure Foundation Marina Khromykh.

It turned out that Symonenko’s administrative post was fired, but he was left as a prosecutor.

“Currently Alexey Yuryevich Simonenko is the prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor General,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a response.

Also, in response to a request from the UCP, it said that no official investigations were carried out against Symonenko and the Qualified Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors did not carry out any disciplinary proceedings on him, although the prosecutor went on vacation in a car registered to the company of the wife of a Lviv businessman. Moreover, the prosecutor was accompanied by his bodyguard.

It seems that the Office of the Prosecutor General is quite satisfied with the fact that Symonenko limited himself to the loss of an administrative position, and then of his own free will, and does not seem to see signs of any disciplinary offenses if he did not contact the relevant authorities to assess Symonenko’s actions“, – noted.

At the same time, the Anti-Corruption Action Center reports that, according to rumors, Simonenko may soon even head the prosecutor’s office of one of the regions.

It was Alexei Simonenko who played a key role in salvation Oleg Tatarov, deputy head of the presidential office, suspected of corruption. In particular, it was he who, after the illegal decision of the Pechersk court handed over Tatarov’s case from NABU to SBU. Subsequently, the case was closed, just at the height of the fighting for Ukraine, in the spring of 2022.

Recall that Simonenko also worked as Deputy Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova and retained his position after her dismissal and the appointment of Andrei Kostin in her place. As the chairman of the board of StateWatch, lawyer Alexander Lemenov, wrote in his article for ZN.ua, “What is Prosecutor General Kostin silent about?” the decision to leave Symonenko in office was dictated by Bankova.

Aleksey Simonenko also once noted in the case of activist and blogger Sergei Sternenko, for whom the Prosecutor General’s Office, even before conducting all the examinations as part of the investigation, was preparing a suspicion in the case of his self-defense. As prosecutor Andrey Radionov, who handled the Sternenko case in 2020, stated during interrogation in court, the Office of the Prosecutor General interfered in the investigation and put pressure on him, while no one was looking for the “customers” of the attack. In particular, according to Andrey Rodionov, Aleksey Simonenko said that this was an instruction from the deputy head of the president’s office, Smirnov.
