Vladimir Zelensky and the President's Office are hard at work on dismissing ex-MP from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc Andriy Pavelko from the post of President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) and appointing the former head coach of the Ukrainian national football team, the famous football player Andriy Shevchenko.
As several sources in football circles told Strana at once, Bankovaya now strongly recommends (and in a rather harsh form) regional football federations to support the dismissal of Pavelko and the appointment of Shevchenko.
Pavelko himself, as Strana already wrote, recently became a suspect in a criminal case of misuse of international financial assistance. The court arrested him for two months, but the UAF president was released on bail of almost 10 million hryvnias.
Pavelko is now trying to resist and is trying to convince the regional federations not to support the change of leadership of the UAF. At the same time, a campaign was launched to discredit Shevchenko. So, footballer Roman Zozulya accused him of taking a picture with the “pro-Russian” FIFA head Gianni Infantino, as well as of lobbying for the lifting of sanctions against the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Earlier, the Transcarpathian Football Association proposed to convene an extraordinary congress of the UAF on December 20 in Kyiv. Rumors that it was on this date that Pavelko was scheduled to be fired repeatedly appeared in the media.
But at the end of November, the Association stated that holding the UAF Congress was impossible until the martial law regime was lifted, and also because of the injunction (by the decision of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv on December 5) on these actions.
“The results of the struggle for the post of the head of the UAF will probably become clear in the very near future,” the Politika Strana Telegram channel comments on the situation.
Earlier, we wrote that the head of the UAF, Andrei Pavelko, published appeal of Volodymyr Zelensky, which FIFA refused to show before the World Cup final.
