SBU recommends UniCredit Bank clients switch to state banks

The management of UniCredit Bank (Ukrsotsbank) expressed concern over the fact that their clients receive letters from the SBU with recommendations to switch to “national banking institutions.”

UniCredit Bank said that their bank is part of the international system, and after merging it with Alfa-Bank, the country will receive a combination of the best experience and practices of both financial groups. Ukrsotsbank stated that such letters are sent out because the SBU considers Alfa-Bank a Russian institution. Meanwhile, this is an international bank, and its “connections with Russian capital are fictitious.”

Alfa-Bank can afford such a statement, since its actual owner, billionaire Mikhail Fridman, is an Israeli citizen and lives in London.

In addition, it was stated that Alfa-Bank does not intend to have a negative impact on the banking system of Ukraine.
