Russian deputy deprived of powers for assigning title to relative

A deputy of the Duma of the Dalnerechensky urban district of the Primorsky Territory was deprived of his powers for assigning the title to a close relative.

The Primorsky Territory Prosecutor’s Office reported this on Telegram.

The department noted that in April of this year, the legislator participated in the vote to award the title “Honorary Resident of the Dalnerechensky Urban District” to his close relative, thereby violating the norms of anti-corruption legislation. “Despite having a personal interest, the official did not take measures to prevent and resolve conflicts of interest,” the statement says.

It is noted that the governor of the region, Oleg Kozhemyako, sent a statement to the Duma for the early termination of the deputy’s powers. However, legislators saw no reason for this and limited themselves to a warning. The interdistrict prosecutor’s office did not agree with this decision and lodged a protest. As a result, the decision of the Duma to confer an honorary title on a relative of a deputy was canceled, and the powers of the legislator who violated the requirements were terminated.
